Athletics At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's Triple Jump
The Women's triple jump competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom. The event was held at the Olympic Stadium on 3–5 August. Greece's Paraskevi Papachristou was sent home by the national delegation for comments she made on Twitter. Four athletes achieved the automatic qualifier, Kimberly Williams and home team favorite Yamilé Aldama, just two weeks short of her 40th birthday, hit the mark in their first attempt. Olga Rypakova's third round jump of 14.79 led the way, while it took 14.16 to make the final. The only returning medalist from 2008 was Tatyana Lebedeva, but at 36, she was jumping more than 1.20 m less than four years ago. Anna Demydova-Bråttvik (née Ganna/Hanna Demydova) (born 8 April 1987) is a Ukrainian triple jumper. She competed in the triple jump event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She was born to Valentin Demydov and Iryna Demydova in Sumy. She attended university in Mykolaiv, before going on to do a master's degree in sport management at the University of Southern Mississippi in the United States. Ayanna Alexander is a track and field athlete from Trinidad and Tobago who is the only women in the country's history to compete at an Olympic games in the women's triple jump. Patrícia Mbengani Bravo Mamona (born 21 November 1988) is a Portuguese triple jumper of Angolan descent. She won the gold medal at the 2016 European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This was her first-ever major senior title and second European Championships medal, after a silver at the 2012 European Athletics Championships – Women's triple jump, 2012 championships. Dana Velďáková (born 3 June 1981 in Rožňava, Czechoslovakia) is a former Slovak athlete specialising in the triple jump. Yargelis Savigne Herrera (born 13 November 1984 in Niceto Pérez, Guantanamo) is a Cuban athlete competing in the triple jump and long jump. Her international breakthrough came in 2005, when she, competing in both the triple and long jump events at the 2005 World Championships, won a silver medal and finished fourth, respectively. Trecia-Kaye Smith (born 5 November 1975 in Westmoreland, Jamaica) is a retired Jamaican athlete who competed mainly in the triple jump. Hanna Viktorivna Kniazieva-Minenko (; ; born 25 September 1989) is a former Ukrainian and a current Israeli triple jumper and long jumper. Kimberly Williams (born 3 November 1988) is a Jamaican triple jumper. She is a multiple time Jamaican National Champion. She was successful as a youth athlete, winning the 2003 CARIFTA Games (under 17 division) as a 14 year old. She was runner up at the 2007 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships. Later, she jumped for Florida State University and was a four time NCAA Champion. By the time she graduated in 2012, she was "the most decorated women's track and field athlete in Florida State history." She is the 2014 Commonwealth Games champion in the triple jump.
