Athletics At The 1980 Summer Olympics – Women's Pentathlon
These are the official results of the Women's Pentathlon competition at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, USSR. There were a total number of 19 participating athletes, with the competition held on 24 July 1980. This was to be the last Pentathlon competition at this level as the Heptathlon subsequently replaced it in 1984 and became the multi-event competition for women. Luzhniki Stadium ( rus, стадион «Лужники», p=stədʲɪˈon lʊʐnʲɪˈkʲi, ''Stadion Luzhniki'') is the national stadium of Russia, located in its capital city, Moscow. The full name of the stadium is Grand Sports Arena of the Luzhniki Olympic Complex. Its total seating capacity of 81,000 makes it the largest football stadium in Russia and the ninth-largest stadium in Europe. Christine Laser (, born 19 March 1951) is a former German athlete who mainly competed in the pentathlon. Biography Christine Bodner was born in Mattstedt, near Apolda, Thüringen. Yvette Julie Wray (née Luker, born 18 October 1958) is a female former English pentathlete, hurdler and sprinter. Born in Scraptoft, Leicestershire, she competed for Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Moscow 1980. She also represented England at the Commonwealth Games in 1978 and 1982, winning two bronze medals. Career At the age of 19, Wray competed internationally for the first time at the 1978 Commonwealth Games and achieved immediate success, earning the bronze medal in the Pentathlon with a score of 4211 points. Judith Earline Veronica Simpson (née Livermore; born 14 November 1960) is a British former heptathlete who competed at three Olympic Games. Małgorzata Bożena Guzowska-Nowak (born February 9, 1959, in Białystok, Podlaskie) is a retired Polish heptathlete. Biography She twice won the gold medal at the Summer Universiade during her career. Guzowska set her personal best (4459 points) in the pentathlon in 1980. Her best of 6616 points in the heptathlon remained the Polish national record for the event until 2022.
