Athens Prefecture
The Athens Prefecture () was one of the prefectures of Greece. It was part of the Attica region and the Athens-Piraeus super-prefecture. The capital of the prefecture was the city of Athens. After Lefkada Prefecture it was the second-smallest in Greece, but was the most populous and most densely populated. It covered the central part of the agglomeration of Athens. Its extremities lied in the municipalities or communities of Chaidari in the west, Ekali in the north, Penteli in the east, and Glyfada in the south. It bordered East Attica Prefecture to the northeast, east, and southeast, West Attica Prefecture to the northwest, and Piraeus Prefecture and the Saronic Gulf to the west. Prefectures Of Greece
Until the Kallikratis reform in 2010, the prefectures () were the second-level administrative regions of Greece. They are now defunct, and have been approximately replaced by regional units. They are called departments in ISO 3166-2:GR and by the United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names. The prefectures were the second-degree organization of local government, grouped into 13 regions or (before 1987) 10 geographical departments, and in turn divided into provinces and comprising a number of communities and municipalities. The prefectures became self-governing entities in 1994, when the first prefectural-level elections took place. The prefects were previously appointed by the government. By 2010, their number had risen to 51, of which one, the Attica Prefecture, where more than a third of the country's population resided, was further subdivided into four prefecture-level administrations (νομαρχίες, sing. νομαρχία). Penteli () is a village and a municipality in the North Athens regional unit, Attica, Greece. Belonging to the Athens rural area, it takes its name from Mount Pentelicus. Agios Dimitrios (Greek: Άγιος Δημήτριος meaning Saint Dimitrios, before 1928: Μπραχάμι - ''Brahami'') is a town in Attica, Greece, and a suburb in the southern part of the Athens agglomeration. Agioi Anargyroi
Agioi Anargyroi () is a suburban town in the north-central part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. It takes its name from the " Holy Unmercenaries": saints who received no payment for their medical services. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Agioi Anargyroi-Kamatero, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. Agia Paraskevi (, ''Agía Paraskeví'') is a suburb and a municipality in the northeastern part of the Athens agglomeration, Greece. It is part of the North Athens regional unit. West Athens (regional Unit)
West Athens () is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Attica. The regional unit covers the west-central part of the agglomeration of Athens. In the last twenty years it has experienced growth, which was contributed to by the establishment of the TEI of Athens and Piraeus, the new workplaces in tertiary production, the theme parks, shopping centres and the general climate of regeneration. Also, the arrival of the Metro and the transport development projects that have been announced have played a catalytic role in demographic development. Saronic Gulf
The Saronic Gulf ( Greek: Σαρωνικός κόλπος, ''Saronikós kólpos'') or Gulf of Aegina in Greece is formed between the peninsulas of Attica and Argolis and forms part of the Aegean Sea. Piraeus Prefecture () was one of the prefectures of Greece.
