Atentát
''Atentát'' (English title: ''The Assassination'') is a 1964 black-and-white Czechoslovak war film directed by Jiří Sequens. The film depicts events before and after the World War II assassination of top German leader Reinhard Heydrich in Prague ('' Operation Anthropoid''). Czech historians have called the film the historically most accurate depiction of the events surrounding ''Operation Anthropoid''. The agents portrayed in the film are not referred to by their real names but by the historical cover names they assumed for the operation. For example, Jan Kubiš is called Otto Strnad. Plot On September 27, 1941, Reinhard Heydrich, one of the most feared top officials of the Nazi Party, an architect of the Holocaust and Hitler's possible successor, is appointed "Reichsprotektor" of Bohemia and Moravia. Operation Anthropoid
Reinhard Heydrich, the commander of the German Reich Security Main Office (RSHA), the acting governor of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia and a principal architect of the Holocaust, was assassinated during the Second World War in a coordinated operation by the Czechoslovak resistance. The assassination attempt, code-named Operation Anthropoid, was carried out by resistance operatives Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš on 27 May 1942. Heydrich was wounded in the attack and died of his injuries on 4 June. The operatives who carried out the assassination were soldiers of the Czechoslovak Army who were prepared and trained by the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) with the approval of the Czechoslovak government-in-exile, led by Edvard Beneš. The Czechoslovaks undertook the operation to help confer legitimacy on the government-in-exile, and to exact retribution for Heydrich's brutal rule. Ladislav Mrkvička (2 February 1939 in Prague – 27 December 2020) was a Czech actor. He starred in the film ''Atentát'' and in the television series '' Thirty Cases of Major Zeman'', both under director Jiří Sequens. For his performance in the film '' Old-Timers'', he received the Czech Lion 2019 for Best Supporting Actor. In 1962, he graduated from the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Adolf Opálka
First Lieutenant Adolf Opálka (4 January 1915 – 18 June 1942) was a Czechoslovak soldier, member of the Czech sabotage group Out Distance, a World War II anti-Nazi resistance group, and a participant in Operation Anthropoid, the successful mission to kill Reinhard Heydrich. Opálka was born into a middle-class family in Rešice and joined the Czechoslovak Army in 1936 where he served in the 43rd Infantry Regiment in Brno. The Munich Agreement and subsequent German occupation of Czechoslovakia led to the disbanding of the Czechoslovak Army, and Opálka's career ended. He escaped to North Africa where he served in the French Foreign Legion, and he later returned to France. He then joined the Out Distance group and participated in Operation Anthropoid. Jiří Sequens
Jiří Sequens (23 April 1922 – 21 January 2008) was a Czech film director. Life Sequens was born in Brno. After the Second World War, he went to Moscow where he studied film techniques. When he returned to Czechoslovakia he worked for Czechoslovak film industry. Sequens was an author of the propagandistic Czech films/TV series. His 1959 film '' Útek ze stínu'' was entered into the 1st Moscow International Film Festival where it won a Golden Medal. His 1964 film ''Atentát'' was entered into the 4th Moscow International Film Festival where it won a Golden Prize. Two years later he was a member of the jury of the 5th Moscow International Film Festival. His 1981 film '' Ta chvíle, ten okamžik'' won a Special Prize at the 12th Moscow International Film Festival. He died in a hospital in Prague of natural causes. Radoslav Brzobohatý
Radoslav Brzobohatý (; 13 September 1932 – 12 September 2012) was a Czech actor. He acted in film, television and theatre, portraying around 200 roles during his career. Life and career Radoslav Brzobohatý was born on 13 September 1932 in Vrútky in the Slovak part of Czechoslovakia, into a sailor's family. In 1940, his family returned to Moravia, where they came from. He spent his childhood in Valašské Meziříčí. At the age of eight, he first appeared on stage, in an adaptation of ''Broučci''. He also played the violin in his childhood. Before finishing his studies at the gymnasium in Valašské Meziříčí, he was expelled. Josef Vinklář (10 November 1930, in Podůlší – 18 September 2007, in Prague) was a Czech actor, a member of the National Theatre. He was married to Czech actress Jana Dítětová. Jan Kubiš
Jan Kubiš (24 June 1913 – 18 June 1942) was a Czech soldier, one of a team of Czechoslovak British-trained paratroopers sent to eliminate acting Reichsprotektor (Realm-Protector) of Bohemia and Moravia, SS-''Obergruppenführer'' Reinhard Heydrich, in 1942 as part of Operation Anthropoid. During the assassination attempt, Kubiš threw a makeshift grenade that mortally wounded Heydrich. Rudolf Jelínek (27 February 1935 – 10 August 2024) was a Czech film actor. He appeared in more than 122 films and television shows between 1955 and 2016 and participated in the dubbing of more than 60 films and television series. Jozef Gabčík
Jozef Gabčík (; 8 April 1912 – 18 June 1942) was a Slovak soldier in the Czechoslovak Army involved in the Operation Anthropoid, the assassination of acting ''Reichsprotektor'' (Realm-Protector) of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, SS-''Obergruppenführer'' Reinhard Heydrich. Life Youth Gabčík was born 1912 in Poluvsie, part of town Rajecké Teplice ( Hungarian: Rajecfürdő), Trencsén County, Kingdom of Hungary (then part of Austria-Hungary, now in northwestern Slovakia).
