Ataköy, Bakırköy
Ataköy is a quarter of Bakırköy district in Istanbul Province, Turkey. It was developed as one of the first examples of satellite-city projects in Turkey. Ataköy is located in Bakırköy district on the European side of Istanbul. It is adjacent to Bahçelievler district and Şirinevler neighborhood. The area in the then outskirt of Istanbul City, which Ataköy today covers, belonged to the Turkish military, and was called Baruthane (literally: gunpowder magazine). In the 1950s, the government of Prime Minister Adnan Menderes (in office (1950–1960)) transferred the property to the state-owned realty business bank Emlak Bank for envelopment as a satellite town, satellite city of affordable housing for middle income households. Ataköy Athletics Arena () is an indoor arena, indoor sporting arena for track and field, track and field athletics events located in Ataköy, Bakırköy, Ataköy, Istanbul, Turkey. Construction The venue was built for the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships. It is situated next to the larger Sinan Erdem Dome which host's basketball among other sports. Galleria Ataköy
Galleria Ataköy, the first modern shopping mall in Turkey, is situated in the western suburb of Ataköy, Bakırköy, Ataköy, Istanbul. It was built following the recommendation of then List of Prime Ministers of Turkey, Prime Minister Turgut Özal, who was inspired by the shopping mall Houston Galleria in Houston, Texas, United States. Galleria Ataköy was opened in 1988 by Turgut Özal. History Galleria Ataköy reflected the changing face of Turkey in the late 1980s and became a symbol of modern life with the stores selling a wide range of goods, most of them imported, cafés and restaurants, which made going there a popular day out. At weekends in particular, people rushed to Galleria from all over the city.
