(English: "Such Is New Mexico") is the official Spanish language state song of the U.S. state of New Mexico, composed in a New Mexico music style. The words and music were created by contemporary composer Amadeo Lucero. It was performed with guitar accompaniment to the assembled members of the Legislature by Lieutenant Governor Roberto Mondragón at the opening session in 1971. It was enthusiastically received and promptly adopted as the Spanish-language version of the state song. New Mexico Music
The New Mexico music genre () is a genre of music that originated in the US state of New Mexico. It derives from Pueblo music in the 13th century, and with the folk music of Hispanos during the 16th to 19th centuries in Santa Fe de Nuevo México. During the early 1900s, the genre began to incorporate country music and American folk music. The 1950s and 1960s brought the influences of blues, jazz, rockabilly, and rock and roll into New Mexico music. During the 1970s, the music style entered popular music in the Southwestern United States. Roberto Mondragón
Roberto A. Mondragón (born July 27, 1940) is an American politician, musician, and activist. He was the Green Party nominee for governor of New Mexico in 1994, receiving 10.4% of the vote (47,080 votes), and coming third, behind winner Gary Johnson and incumbent Democratic candidate Bruce King. Prior to this, he served as lieutenant governor of New Mexico from 1971 to 1975 and from 1979 to 1983, and as a state representative. He currently serves as special water projects coordinator for the New Mexico state engineer's office and the Interstate Stream Commission. Mondragón later returned to the Democratic Party. Mondragón recorded two albums in the late 1970s and early 1980s, ''Que Cante Mondragón'' and ''Amigo''. One of his early recordings is "Mi Carrito Paseado", a humorous, Spanglish, homage to a less than reliable automobile. "O Fair New Mexico" is the regional anthem of the U.S. state of New Mexico. It was officially adopted as the state song by an act of the New Mexico legislature, approved on March 14, 1917, as signed by New Mexican governor Washington E. Lindsey. New Mexico is a state of the Southwest United States. The state has music traditions dating back to the ancient Anasazi and Pueblo people, Navajo, Apache, and the Spanish Santa Fe de Nuevo México; these old traditions are found in both their original folk forms and as a modern folk genre known as New Mexico music.
