Assumption Cathedral (Trois-Rivières)
The Assumption Cathedral () also called Paroisse Immaculée-Conception of Trois-Rivières, is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trois-Rivieres in Quebec, Canada, since the nineteenth century. The parish of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin (paroisse of L'Immaculée-Conception-de-la-Sainte-Vierge) also includes, besides the cathedral, churches (or local communities) of Our Lady of the Seven Joys, St. Philip, St. Francis and St Cecilia. The first Mass was celebrated in the local soil on July 26, 1615, held by the Recollect Father Denys Jamet. Trois-Rivières (, ; ) is a city in the Mauricie administrative region of Quebec, Canada. It is located at the confluence of the Saint-Maurice River, Saint-Maurice and Saint Lawrence River, Saint Lawrence rivers, on the north shore of the Saint Lawrence River across from the city of Bécancour, Quebec, Bécancour. The Franciscan Recollects () were a French reform branch of the Friars Minor, a Franciscan order. Denoted by their gray habits and pointed hoods, the Recollects devoted their lives to an extra emphasis on prayer, penance, and spiritual reflection (recollection), focusing on living in small, remote communities to better facilitate these goals. Pope Pius IX (; born Giovanni Maria Battista Pietro Pellegrino Isidoro Mastai-Ferretti; 13 May 1792 – 7 February 1878) was head of the Catholic Church from 1846 to 1878. His reign of nearly 32 years is the longest verified of any pope in history; if including unverified reigns, his reign was second to that of Peter the Apostle.
