The Braga Football Association (''Associação de Futebol de Braga'', abrv. ''AF Braga'') is the district governing body for the all football competitions in the Portuguese district of Braga since 1992. It is also the regulator of the clubs registered in the district. Below the Campeonato Nacional de Seniores (Portuguese third level) the competitions are organised at a district level (known in Portuguese as Distritais) with each District Association organising its competitions according to geographical and other factors. AF Braga runs a league competition with three divisions, at the fourth, fifth and sixth levels of the Portuguese football league system, a cup competition known as Taça AF Braga, and a Supercup. In more general terms the AF Braga currently organises District Championships for football and Futsal for men and women for all age groups including Senior, Junior, Youth, Beginners, Infants and Schools. Vieira is a Portuguese and Galician term which in Portuguese and Galician stands for the Great Pilgrim Mussel from the scallop family (Pectinidae). The term derives its use as a place and family name. History The use of the term can be traced, according to current knowledge, to the beginning of the 13th century in northwestern Portugal. The historical writing form of the term ''Vieira'' was ''Vyeyra''. It is assumed that the term as a name originated independently in different places (e.g. Vieira do Minho and Vieira de Leiria). Gil Vicente Futebol Clube (), commonly known as Gil Vicente, founded in 1924, is a Portuguese professional football club that plays in Barcelos. It plays their home matches at the Estádio Cidade de Barcelos. It competes in the Primeira Liga, the top division of football in the country, and it is named after Portuguese playwright Gil Vicente. Futebol Clube de Vizela is a Portuguese professional football club that plays in Liga Portugal 2, the second tier of Portuguese football.
