Association Internationale D'études Occitanes
The Association internationale d'études occitanes, abbreviated to AIEO, is an international scholarly organization whose mission is the study and promotion of the Occitan language spoken in the south of France, the northeast of Spain, specifically in the Val d'Aran, and the northwest of Italy. Members of the AIEO include scholars, academics, students, and those interested in Occitania. The AIEO was formally organized in 1981 and held its first international congress in 1984, in Southampton, England. Congresses are generally held every three years, attracting scholars from around the world; the tradition is to alternate between venues in Occitan-speaking regions and non-Occitan-speaking regions. Each congress has been followed by the publication of ''Acts''. Occitan Language
Occitan (; ), also known by its native speakers as (; ), sometimes also referred to as Provençal, is a Romance language spoken in Southern France, Monaco, Italy's Occitan Valleys, as well as Spain's Val d'Aran in Catalonia; collectively, these regions are sometimes referred to as Occitania. It is also spoken in Calabria ( Southern Italy) in a linguistic enclave of Cosenza area (mostly Guardia Piemontese) named Gardiol, which is also considered a separate Occitanic language. Some include Catalan as a dialect of Occitan, as the linguistic distance between this language and some Occitan dialects (such as the Gascon language) is similar to the distance between different Occitan dialects. Catalan was considered a dialect of Occitan until the end of the 19th century and still today remains its closest relative. Brepols
Brepols is a Belgian publishing house. Once, it was one of the largest printing companies in the world and one of the main employers in Turnhout (Belgium). Besides its printing business, Brepols is also active as a publisher. Formerly well known for its missalen, the company is now better known for its specialization in historical studies and editions of classical authors, including the Corpus Christianorum. History In 1795, Pieter Corbeels, a printer from Leuven, moved to Turnhout together with his assistant Philippus Jacobus Brepols, possibly to flee the French army, which occupied Belgium at that time. University Of Girona
The University of Girona ( (); ;) is located in the city of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Its real origin dates back to its creation in 1446, but it was reestablished as a new university in 1991. The University of Oviedo (, Asturian: ''Universidá d'Uviéu'') is a public university in Asturias (Spain). It is the only university in the region.
