Ashraf Chowdhury
Ashraf Chowdhury (; 1935 – 28 December 1998) was a former Bangladeshi football player and coach. Early career Ashraf was born in Daudkandi Upazila of Comilla District, British India. On 14 August 1947, he played for Lalmonirhat High School during an exhibition match against East Pakistan Railway. His performances led him to represent the eventual runners-up, Gaibandha Town Club, in the Cooch Behar Cup in India in 1949. During the tournament, he played alongside Goda Rashid of Wari Club Dhaka, who later brought Ashraf to the Dhaka-based club. Club career In 1950, Ashraf joined Wari Club; however, he departed after being benched for the first three games. Eventually, he was brought to Dhaka Mohammedan by coach Abdus Sattar in the same year. Ashraf repaid his coach's faith by scoring in his Dhaka League debut against Wari Club. Daudkandi () is an upazila of Comilla District in the Division of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Geography Daudkandi is located at . It has 69,014 households and a total area of 314.99 km2 which is located at the extreme near of the upazila by the Dhaka Chittagong Highway. Dhaka Wanderers Club
Dhaka Wanderers Club () is a Bangladeshi professional football club from Motijheel area of Dhaka, Bangladesh. It currently competes in the Bangladesh Premier League, the top flight of Bangladeshi football, having gained promotion from the 2023–24 Bangladesh Championship League. The Wanderers are one of the oldest and most successful clubs in the country. They won seven domestic First Division titles prior to the Independence of Bangladesh. The club has also won the Independence Day Football Tournament five times. In continental football, their greatest achievement remains a runners-up trophy in the 1963 Aga Khan Gold Cup. Nurunnabi Chowdhury (; 1934 – January 2003), better known as Nabi Chowdhury, was a former Bangladeshi football player and the first East Pakistani or Bengali to captain the Pakistan national football team. Early life Nabi Chowdhury was born in Aziz Fazilpur village in the Feni sub-division of Noakhali District, Bengal. Club career Nabi began his career in inter-school football, representing Comilla Victoria College while simultaneously playing in the Cumilla Football League with Pak United. In 1952, he joined the Pakistan Air Force and, under the recommendation of veteran striker Moideen Kutty, represented Pakistan Air Force FC in the Inter-Service Championship until 1954. The National Football Championship alternatively spelled National Soccer Championship was the men's highest level football competition from 1948 to 2003. Founded by the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) in 1948, it was mainly held on knock-out basis. It was eventually replaced by the Pakistan Premier League from the 2004–05 season in order to professionalize the sport in Pakistan. Until 1971, it was run in parallel with the Dhaka League in East Pakistan. The Aga Khan Gold Cup was a tournament played in Dhaka, Bangladesh which invited the club sides from leading football nations of Asia to compete. History The British Library's Newspapers section was based in Colindale in north London until 2013, and is now divided between the St Pancras and Boston Spa sites.
