Ashfield Railway Station, Perth
Ashfield is a Transperth railway station located north-east of Perth railway station, Western Australia, on the Midland line. It serves the suburb of Ashfield. History The station opened as a signal box named Cresco in 1930, with passenger facilities provided in 1954. The signal box remained until 1964. Construction on a new 83 bay car park started in February 2020. The new car park was needed because 180 bays were permanently removed from Bayswater station in late 2020 due to the construction of the new Bayswater station. Since Ashfield station is in fare zone 2, and Bayswater station is in fare zone 1, catching the train into the city is more expensive from Ashfield. In order to offset the additional cost for passengers going to Ashfield station instead of Bayswater, the parking at Ashfield station is going to be free during the construction of the new Bayswater station. Transperth Trains
Transperth Train Operations is a division of the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia. It is responsible for operating Perth’s urban passenger rail system, as part of the Transperth network. Perth's passenger rail network covers of track with 90 stations on 8 lines across the city's greater metropolitan area. Over the last three decades the rail network has undergone rapid expansion. Between 1981 and 2016 the network tripled in route length and was electrified. The Northern Suburbs Railway was opened in 1993 and was progressively extended, while the new Mandurah Line was opened in 2007. SmartRider
SmartRider is the contactless electronic ticketing system of the Public Transport Authority of Western Australia. The system uses RFID smartcard technology to process public transport fares across public bus, train and ferry services. The system is used widely across the Transperth public transport network in metropolitan Perth, as well as the regional town bus services of TransAlbany, TransBunbury, TransBusselton, TransEsperance, TransGeraldton, TransHedland, TransGoldfields, TransKarratha and TransCarnarvon in Western Australian regional centres. Transperth is the brand name of the public transport system serving the city and suburban areas of Perth, the state capital of Western Australia. The Midland line is a suburban rail service on the Transperth network in Perth, Western Australia. It runs on the Eastern Railway through Perth's eastern suburbs and connects Midland with Perth. Travelling from Midland, the trains terminate at Fremantle on the Fremantle line. History The section of the Eastern Railway between Fremantle, Perth and Guildford was the first suburban railway line in Perth, opening on 1 March 1881. The line was extended from Guildford to Chidlow's Well, opening in March 1884. Ashfield, Western Australia
Ashfield is a residential suburb of Perth, Western Australia in the Town of Bassendean. The suburb is located along the Swan River. The Midland line passes through the suburb and it is serviced by the Ashfield railway station. The housing was originally established as small collection of railway houses near the train line. In the late 1950s early 1960s the area experienced a small boom of housing (400 houses) mostly built by the then State Housing Commission partly funded by the sale of half the properties to individuals. In the late 1960s the State Housing started to reacquire some of those properties. Bayswater Railway Station, Perth
Bayswater railway station is a station in Bayswater, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is on the Midland line and Airport line, which are part of the Transperth commuter rail network. It has an island platform, accessed via a pedestrian underpass and a level crossing. The station is only partially accessible due to a large platform gap and steep access ramps to the platform. Services on each line run every 12 minutes during peak and every 15 minutes between peak. The journey to Perth station is , and takes 12 minutes. The station is served by three regular bus routes. The station first opened in 1896, with two side platforms, and an adjacent goods yard. It served as the junction station for the Belmont spur line between 1896 and 1956. It was formed to deliver commitments made by the McGowan Government during the 2017 election campaign.
