Asbury Methodist Church (Raynham, North Carolina)
Asbury Methodist Church, also known as Asbury Memorial Church and Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church South, is a historic Methodist church located at Raynham, Robeson County, North Carolina. It was built in 1861, and is a one-story, timber-frame building in a modest Greek Revival style. It measures approximately 40 feet by 50 feet and features a prominent, projecting, pedimented front gable supported by five posts. Adjacent to the church is the contributing cemetery with approximately 200 marked graves. The oldest grave dates to 1848. Asbury United Methodist Church, formerly known as Asbury Methodist Episcopal Church, South, is a historic church in Knoxville, Tennessee. History The church is named for English Methodist evangelist Francis Asbury, who is credited with disseminating Methodism in the United States in late 18th and early 19th centuries, and who on November 2, 1800, led the first Methodist worship service in East Tennessee. The church sits on land that was donated in 1855 by the Huffaker family. The church building underwent its last major renovation in 1898. The Gothic revival architecture has been largely unaltered since that time. Subsequent additions include a backlighted painting of Jesus; an organ, piano, and chimes; a parsonage and Sunday school built in 1938; and a fellowship hall built in 1949. Asbury United Methodist Church (Chattanooga, Tennessee)
Asbury United Methodist Church, originally Highland Park Methodist Episcopal Church, is a historic church on Bailey Avenue in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The congregation was organized in 1889 as the Highland Park Methodist Episcopal Church. The congregation soon moved into a new frame construction, frame church that it used for about 20 years before completing the current building. The current church building is a brick structure in a Gothic architecture, Gothic design created by architect Reuben Harrison Hunt. It was completed in 1909, dedicated in 1911, and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Highland Park Methodist Episcopal Church changed its name to Asbury Methodist Church in 1938, when the Methodist Episcopal Church and Methodist Episcopal Church, South, merged. The Savannah Victorian Historic District is a historic district in Savannah, Georgia. It is mostly residential in character and features Late Victorian, Queen Anne, and other architectural styles. Asbury United Methodist Church is a United Methodist church in the Savannah Victorian Historic District in Savannah, Georgia. The church was founded in 1871 and moved to its current location in 1927. History The church traces its history to the Civil War, when several black Methodists began holding church service without formal affiliation with any established church in the city. In 1871, Reverend Charles O. Fisher of the Methodist Episcopal Church founded the church with 50 members. The church was named after Methodist bishop Francis Asbury. Early in its history, the church used several buildings, including one near Savannah Union Station. In 1927, the church moved to its current location, a church building purchased from Bull Street Baptist Church located on Abercorn Street in the Savannah Victorian Historic District. Asbury United Methodist Church and Bethel Chapel and Cemetery is a national historic district containing a Methodist church, chapel, and cemetery at 19 Old Post Road in Croton-on-Hudson, Westchester County, New York. The church was built in 1883 and is a rectangular brick building with a multi-colored slate-covered gable roof in the Gothic Revival style. It features large Gothic-arched stained and leaded glass windows added in 1891 and a square, engaged, two stage tower. The chapel was built about 1790 and is a -story, two-by-two-bay, clapboard-sided building on a granite foundation. Francis Asbury (1745–1816) is known to have visited the chapel on September 20, 1795. The cemetery is in two sections and contains about 5,000 graves; the date of the earliest burial is 1801. New Asbury Methodist Episcopal Meetinghouse
The New Asbury Methodist Episcopal Meeting House, also known as the Asbury United Methodist Church, is a historic church located on Shore Road ( U.S. Route 9) in Middle Township of Cape May County, New Jersey, about six miles north of Cape May Court House. It was built in 1852 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 17, 1980, for its significance in architecture and religion. With It was documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) in 1992. The Greek Revival church was built in 1852 by the master builder/architect Daniel Hand, who also built the Old Cape May County Courthouse Building and the Calvary Baptist Church.
