As-Sunnah Foundation
The As-Sunnah Foundation () is a non-political, non-profit religious charity organization based in Bangladesh. It engages in various service activities, including education, religious outreach, and humanitarian efforts. The organization was founded in 2017 by Bangladeshi Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmadullah, who has served as its chairman since its establishment. Under the foundation, initiatives such as the ''As-sunnah Skill Development Institute'' and the ''Madrasatus-sunnah'' program have been launched. Additionally, the foundation carries out a range of service-oriented activities, including emergency relief distribution to flood victims, clothing distribution to those affected by cold, food distribution to the hungry, and a nationwide tree-planting program. The taka (, , sign: , code: BDT, short form: Tk) is the currency of Bangladesh. In Unicode, it is encoded at . Issuance of banknotes 10 and larger is controlled by Bangladesh Bank, while the 2 and 5 govt. notes are the responsibility of the ministry of finance. The govt. notes of Tk. 2 and Tk.5 have mostly been replaced by coins while lower denomination coins (including all poysha coins) up to Tk. 1 have almost gone out of circulation due to inflation. The most commonly used symbol for the taka is "" and "Tk", used on receipts while purchasing goods and services. It is divided into 100 poysha, but poysha coins are no longer in circulation. The poysha is still used for accounting purposes (e.g., Tk 123,456.78 for 123,456 taka and 78 poysha). August 2024 Bangladesh Floods
On August 21, 2024, heavy rainfall, coupled with a surge of water released from a dam in Tripura, India's Tripura, resulted in severe flooding that affected 73 upazilas (sub-districts) and 528 unions/municipalities across 11 districts in northeastern and southeastern Bangladesh. It marks one of the worst flood events in recent history. Developments 21 August Cloudbursts began on the morning of 19 August, leading to prolonged and intense rainfall. 2023 Turkey–Syria Earthquakes
On 6 February 2023, at 04:17 Time in Turkey, TRT (01:17 Coordinated Universal Time, UTC), a 7.8 earthquake struck southern and central Turkey and northern and western Ba'athist Syria, Syria. The epicenter was west–northwest of Gaziantep. The earthquake had a maximum Modified Mercalli intensity scale, Mercalli intensity of XII (''Extreme'') around the epicenter and in Antakya. It was followed by a 7.7 earthquake at 13:24. This earthquake was centered north-northeast from the first. There was widespread damage and tens of thousands of fatalities.
