''Artistička radna akcija'' (meaning: ''"Artistic Work Action"'', also known under the acronym: ''ARA'') is a new wave and punk rock compilation album released in 1981 by Jugoton in SFR Yugoslavia. It presents a snapshot of the early 1980s Belgrade underground music scene through bands Radnička Kontrola, Bezobrazno Zeleno, Profili Profili, Defektno Efektni, Urbana Gerila, Petar i Zli Vuci, U Škripcu, Pasta ZZ, VIA Talas and TV Moroni, all of whom took part in the compilation as means of showcasing their material to a wider audience. Background The album was released by Jugoton as a followup to the hugely successful ''Paket aranžman'' that presented three Belgrade bands (Idoli, Šarlo Akrobata and Električni Orgazam), which, after the compilation release, quickly gained mainstream popularity. TV Moroni
TV Moroni ( sr-cyr, ТВ Морони; trans. ''TV Morons'') was a Serbian new wave/punk rock band from Belgrade, notable as the participant of the ''Artistička radna akcija'' project in 1981. History The band consisted of Zoran Cerar (vocals), Aleksandar Aleksandrić (lead guitar), Aleksandar Đukić (rhythm guitar), Zoran Janković (bass) and Mićo Uzelac (drums). Other band members were Srđan Dragojević, and Goran Nikolić, but they did not record anything with the band. TV Moroni's two songs, "Moja borba" ("My Struggle") and "Pada noć" ("The Night Is Falling"), were the closing tracks of the "Artistička radna akcija" (''Artistic Work Action'') various artist compilation, featuring the second generation of the Belgrade new wave and punk rock bands. Partibrejkers
Partibrejkers (Serbian Cyrillic: Партибрејкерс, transliteration for: ''Partybreakers'') is a Serbian rock band from Belgrade, as well as one of the most acclaimed acts of the Yugoslav rock scene. The band was formed in 1982 and released its first album, '' Partibrejkers I'' in 1985 in a two guitars, drums and vocal set (no bass guitar). The band has experienced numerous line-up changes. The mainstay of the band are Zoran Kostić "Cane" (vocals) and Nebojša Antonijević "Anton" (guitar). The band has received steady critical acclaim over the years and is well received by audiences all over former Yugoslavia, not only because of their music, but also because of their anti-war activism with the Rimtutituki project. Garage punk is a rock music fusion genre combining the influences of garage rock, punk rock, and often other genres; the genre took shape in the indie rock underground between the late 1980s and early 1990s. Bands drew heavily from 1960s garage rock, stripped-down 1970s punk rock, and Detroit proto-punk; it also often incorporated numerous other styles into their approach, such as power pop, 1960s girl groups, hardcore punk, blues, early R&B and surf rock. Zoran Kostić (musician)
Zoran Kostić (Serbian Cyrillic: Зоран Костић; born 17 August 1964 in Belgrade) widely known by his nickname Cane () is a Serbian rock musician, known primarily as the leader and vocalist for Serbian punk rock group Partibrejkers. Early years Kostić was born in 1964 to parents Slobodan and Mirjana. He is related to Gavrilo Princip (Gavrilo's mother and his great grandfather were biological siblings). Growing up near the Ušće area of New Belgrade, he founded his first band in 1979, at the age of 15 - a group called Kopilad (''Bastards''). In 1980, he played with Urbana Gerila for a short time, before joining Radnička kontrola in 1981, where he played alongside some also soon-to-become-notable musicians: drummer Srđan "Žika" Todorović, lead guitarist Darko Milojković and bassist Srđan "Đile" Marković. My Boy Lollipop
"My Boy Lollipop" (originally "My Girl Lollypop") is a song written in the mid-1950s by Robert Spencer of the doo-wop group The Cadillacs, and usually credited to Spencer, Morris Levy, and Johnny Roberts. It was first recorded in 1956 by American singer Barbie Gaye under the title "My Boy Lollypop". A later version recorded by Jamaican singer Millie Small in 1964, with very similar rhythm, became an international hit that time and is one of the first songs to introduce ska music. Barbie Gaye original version The original song "My Girl Lollypop" was written by Robert Spencer of the doo-wop group The Cadillacs. Notorious record company executive Morris Levy agreed to purchase the song from Spencer. Popular music in Yugoslavia includes the pop music, pop and rock music of the former SFR Yugoslavia, including all their genres and subgenres. Reggae
Reggae () is a music genre that originated in Jamaica during the late 1960s. The term also denotes the modern popular music of Jamaica and its Jamaican diaspora, diaspora. A 1968 single by Toots and the Maytals, "Do the Reggay", was the first popular song to use the word ''reggae'', effectively naming the genre and introducing it to a global audience. Reggae is rooted in traditional Jamaican Kumina, Pukkumina, Revival Zion, Nyabinghi, and burru drumming. Jamaican reggae music evolved out of the earlier genres mento, ska and rocksteady. The spaghetti Western is a broad subgenre of Western films produced in Europe. It emerged in the mid-1960s in the wake of Sergio Leone's filmmaking style and international box-office success. Surf Music
Surf music (also known as surf rock, surf pop, or surf guitar) is a genre of rock music associated with surf culture, particularly as found in Southern California. It was especially popular from 1958 to 1964 in two major forms. The first is instrumental surf, distinguished by reverb-heavy electric guitars played to evoke the sound of crashing waves, largely pioneered by Dick Dale and the Del-Tones. The second is vocal surf, which took elements of the original surf sound and added vocal harmonies, a movement led by the Beach Boys. Dick Dale developed the surf sound from instrumental rock, where he added Middle Eastern and Mexican influences, a spring reverb, and rapid alternate picking characteristics. Električni Orgazam ( sr-cyr, Електрични Оргазам, lit=Electric Orgasm, translit=) is a Serbian rock band from Belgrade. Originally starting as a combination of new wave, punk rock and post-punk, the band later slowly changed their style, becoming a mainstream rock act. They were one of the most notable acts of the former Yugoslav rock scene.
