Art Seaberg
Arthur W. Seaberg (December 10, 1936 – December 19, 2024) was an American state legislator who served in the Minnesota House of Representatives (1983–1993). An attorney by profession, he represented District 38B in Dakota County as an Independent-Republican. As a legislator he was an advocate for domestic abuse victims, and he passed several bills increasing protections for them. Life and career Seaberg was born in Minneapolis and attended Central High School in nearby St. Paul. He received a B.A. in political science from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 1961. He went on to receive a LL.B. and J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law. He lived in Mendota Heights and Eagan during his House tenure. Seaberg has six children, three of whom belonged to second wife Joanne. He had 10 grandchildren at the time of his death. Seaberg died on December 19, 2024. The Minnesota Legislature is the bicameral legislature of the U.S. state of Minnesota consisting of two houses: the Senate and the House of Representatives. Senators are elected from 67 single-member districts. In order to account for decennial redistricting, members run for one two-year term and two four-year terms each decade. They are elected for four-year terms in years ending in 2 and 6, and for two-year terms in years ending in 0. Representatives are elected for two-year terms from 134 single-member districts formed by dividing the 67 senate districts in half (ie. Senate District 1 Contains House Districts 1A and 1B).
