Arroyo Barril is a municipal district of Santa Bárbara de Samaná, Samaná Province in the Dominican Republic. It is on the south coast of the Samaná Peninsula, on the coast of Samaná Bay. It was elevated to the category of municipal district on May 1, 2003. Samaná (old spelling: Xamaná), in full Santa Bárbara de Samaná, is a town and municipality in northeastern Dominican Republic and the capital of Samaná Province. It is on the northern coast of Samaná Bay. The town is an important tourism destination and the main center for whale-watching tours in the Caribbean region. The town has three municipal districts: El Limón, Las Galeras, and Arroyo Barril. According to the 2012 population and housing census, the municipality has a total population of 108,179. Samaná Bay
Samaná Bay is a bay in the eastern Dominican Republic. The Yuna River flows into Samaná Bay, and it is located south of the town of Samaná and the Samaná Peninsula. Wildlife Among its features are protected islands that serve as nesting sites for pelicans and frigatebirds, caves with Taíno pictographs and petroglyphs, and mangrove-lined river tributaries. It is a significant breeding site for the humpback whale in the Caribbean; the breeding season attracts many whale-watchers. Geography Samaná Bay lies along the boundary between the North American Plate and the Caribbean Plate. Two named fault lines run the length of Samaná Bay. Arroyo Barril International Airport is an airport west of Samaná, the capital of Samaná Province in the Dominican Republic.
