Arnold Busck
Arnold Andreas Bull Ahrensen Busck (29 November 1871 – 22 February 1953) was a Danish bookseller and publisher, founder of Arnold Busck A/S, Denmark's largest chain of bookstores. Early life and education Arnold Busck was born into a well-educated and moderately wealthy family in Roskilde to Theodor Busck and Fanny Elisabeth Busck née Ahrensen. His father was principal at Duebrødre Kloster and Hospital and was later appointed as Chancellor (''kancelliråd''). His maternal grandfather, professor Arnold Ahrensen, a medical doctor, was co-founder of ''Ugeskrift for Læger''. His paternal grandfather was an estate owner whose brother was the priest Gunni Busck, a friend of N. F. S. Grundtvig. Gunni Busck
Gunni Busck (9 June 1840 – 20 March 1920) was a Danish businessman. He was a founder of the Scandinavian Preserved Butter Company and Københavns Mælkeforsyning. He was the paternal uncle of bookdealer Arnold Busck. Early life and education Busck, born on June 9, 1840, in Roskilde, was the son of farmer August Busck (1806–1869) and Johanne Marie Secher (1801–1882). His ambition was to become a medical doctor, but unfortunately, he had to abandon his studies due to illness at a young age. Career Busck was licensed as a businessman (') in Copenhagen in 1862 and engaged in the export of sweetened, canned butter to the tropics. Arnold Busck, named after founder Arnold Busck, is a family-owned Danish company with activities in book distribution and publishing. The Arnold Busck chain of bookstores is one of the largest Danish book retailers with 30 stores. It went bankrupt on 27 April 2020, during the coronavirus pandemic. 14 of its bookstores were bought by Bog & Idé, while the Arnold Busck brand and it most well-known store in Købmagergade, Copenhagen were bought by JP/Politikens Forlag, owned by JP/Politikens Hus. The Order of the Dannebrog ( da, Dannebrogordenen) is a Danish order of chivalry instituted in 1671 by Christian V. Until 1808, membership in the order was limited to fifty members of noble or royal rank, who formed a single class known as ''White Knights'' to distinguish them from the ''Blue Knights'' who were members of the Order of the Elephant. In 1808, the Order was reformed and divided into four classes. The ''Grand Commander'' class is reserved to persons of princely origin. It is awarded only to royalty with close family ties with the Danish Royal House. The statute of the Order was amended in 1951 by a Royal Ordinance so that both men and women could be members of the Order.
