Arne Björk
Erik Arne Björk (22 December 1911 – 5 February 1996) was a Swedish dentist famous for his ''The Face in Profile'' Analysis which he published in 1947. He is also known to develop the implant radiography. Education Björk was born in Ludvika, Sweden. He received his dental training in Stockholm. He practiced dentistry from 1937 to 1951. He served as chairman of orthodontics in Malmö, Sweden from 1940 to 1950. He then served as Professor of Orthodontics in Royal Dental College, Denmark. During his studying, he published his thesis called "Face in the Profile" which made him famous in the orthodontic circles. Eventually, he became the head of Department of Orthodontics and head of Craniofacial Growth Center at the Royal Dental College for next 30 years. World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO) is a worldwide federation of a medical associations for orthodontists that was formed at the 4th International Orthodontic Congress (IOC) in San Francisco by 69 affiliated organizations on May 15, 1995, and now has over 8,000 WFO fellows and 109 affiliated organizations. Albert Ketcham
Albert H. Ketcham (August 3, 1870 – December 5, 1935) was an American orthodontist and a past president of the American Society of Orthodontists. Life and career He was born in Whiting, Vermont, and attended high school at Vermont Academy, Saxtons River. In 1892, Albert graduate from Boston Dental College and then served as a clinical instructor until 1895. In 1894 he married Mary E. Hickson and had two children, Arthur and May. He later married Flora B. Smith and moved to Colorado after contracting pulmonary tuberculosis. Ketcham was a student of Edward Angle at his Angle School of Orthodontia. He graduated from the school in 1902 and practiced in Colorado until his death. He published more than 40 articles in the Dental and Orthodontic journals between 1902 and 1935. Orthodontists
Orthodontics (also referred to as orthodontia) is a dentistry specialty that addresses the diagnosis, prevention, management, and correction of mal-positioned teeth and jaws, as well as misaligned bite patterns. It may also address the modification of facial growth, known as dentofacial orthopedics. Abnormal alignment of the teeth and jaws is very common. The approximate worldwide prevalence of malocclusion was as high as 56%. However, conclusive scientific evidence for the health benefits of orthodontic treatment is lacking, although patients with completed treatment have reported a higher quality of life than that of untreated patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. The main reason for the prevalence of these malocclusions is diets with less fresh fruit and vegetables and overall softer foods in childhood, causing smaller jaws with less room for the teeth to erupt.
