Armando Quintero Martínez
Armando Quintero Martínez (born 25 November 1954 in Mexico City) is a Mexican left-wing politician and labor leader affiliated with Movimiento Ciudadano. Political career Quintero is a founder and labor leader of the UNAM's Workers Union (''Sindicato de Trabajadores de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México'' or ''STUNAM''); he is also one of the PRD founders. Quintero served in the lower house of the Mexican Congress during the LVI Legislature. In 2000 he gained a seat in the Legislative Assembly of the Federal District and in 2003 he was elected borough mayor () in Iztacalco, Mexican Federal District. The Party of the Democratic Revolution (, , PRD) is a state-level social democracy, social democratic political party in Mexico (previously national, until 2024). The PRD originated from the Democratic Current, a political faction formed in 1986 from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). The PRD was formed after the contested 1988 Mexican general election, general election in 1988, which the PRD's immediate predecessor, the National Democratic Front (Mexico), National Democratic Front, believed was rigged by the PRI. Iztacalco
Iztacalco () is a borough (''demarcación territorial'') in Mexico City. It is located in the central-eastern area and it is the smallest of the city's boroughs. The area's history began in 1309 when the island of Iztacalco, in what was Lake Texcoco, was settled in 1309 by the Mexica who would later found Tenochtitlan, according to the Codex Xolotl. The island community would remain small and isolated through the colonial period, but drainage projects in the Valley of Mexico dried up the lake around it. The area was transformed into a maze of small communities, artificial islands called chinampas and solid farmland divided by canals up until the first half of the 20th century. Politically, the area has been reorganized several times, being first incorporated in 1862 and the modern borough coming into existence in 1929. It was founded in 1999 under the name Convergence for Democracy, which was then shortened to Convergence in 2002 and changed to Citizens' Movement in 2011.
