The route of runs from US Route 67 (US 67) (Future Interstate 57 ) and Highway 90 in south Pocahontas east to Highway 34/Highway 90 in Delaplaine. Route description Highway 304 begins at US 67 (Future I-57) south of Pocahontas. The route heads east past Nick Wilson Field and Black River Technical College to meet Highway 304N. Highway 304 has a junction with Highway 231 near Sharum before entering Greene County. Highway 304 continues east to Delaplaine, where it meets AR 34/ AR 90 and terminates. History Highway 304 was added to the state highway system as part of a large transfer of county roads to the state system that took place on April 24, 1963. Arkansas State Highway Commission
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT), formerly the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, is a government department in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its mission is to provide a safe, efficient, aesthetically pleasing and environmentally sound intermodal transportation system for the user. The department is responsible for implementing policy made by the Arkansas State Highway Commission, a board of officials appointed by the Governor of Arkansas to direct transportation policy in the state. The department's director is appointed by the commission to hire staff and manage construction and maintenance on Arkansas's highways. Arkansas Highway 34
Highway 34 (AR 34, Ark. 34, and Hwy. 34) is an east–west state highway in the Upper Arkansas Delta. The route of begins at US Highway 412 (US 412) and U.S. Route 67 Business (US 67B). The route is maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD). Route description AR 34 begins in Walnut Ridge and runs northeast under US 67 (Future I-57), meeting and concurring with AR 231 until O'Kean. AR 34 meets AR 90 in O'Kean, and runs with it northeast to Delaplaine. The route turns south in Delaplaine to Evening Star, when it heads east to meet AR 141 in Beech Grove. AR 34 continues east to meet AR 135 north of Oak Grove Heights, which it follows north until Lafe. AR 34 then runs east to Marmaduke, where it crosses US 49/ AR 1. Generally the two-digit odd numbered highways run north–south with a few exceptions; and even-numbered two-digit state highways run east–west with a few exceptions. Arkansas has long had a stigma of poor roads, dating from the "Arkansas Roads Scandal" playing a prominent role in state politics through the 1920s and 1930s, periodic allegations of corruption, waste, and fraud, and a long-running struggle to adequately fund the operation, maintenance and expansion of a large highway system serving a rural state. They are loop roads and found in many road systems in the United States including the U.S. Highway system and various state and county route systems. Black River Technical College
Black River Technical College (BRTC) is a public community college in Pocahontas, Arkansas. It is named for the Black River which runs through the city. BRTC serves approximately 3,000 students annually through its degree programs, technical courses, and community educational offerings. History BRTC was established in 1972 as Black River Vocational Technical School on land donated by the City of Pocahontas, Arkansas. BRTC's original purpose was to provide vocational education for the Northeast Arkansas region. The college adopted its current name in 1991 and became an independent institution of higher education in 1993 at which time it offered associates degrees and college courses toward core requirements for four-year schools. Pocahontas, Arkansas
Pocahontas is a city in Randolph County, Arkansas, United States, along the Black River. According to the 2010 Census Bureau, the population of the city was 6,608. The city is the county seat of Randolph County. Interstate 57 (I-57) is a north–south Interstate Highway in Missouri and Illinois that parallels the old Illinois Central Railroad for much of its route. It runs from Sikeston, Missouri, at I-55 to Chicago, Illinois, at I-94. I-57 essentially serves as a shortcut route for travelers headed between the South ( Memphis, New Orleans, etc.) and Chicago, bypassing St. Louis, Missouri and Springfield, Illinois.
