Area Code 268
Area code 268 is the telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for Antigua and Barbuda. The area code digit sequence translates to ''ANT'' on a standard US alphanumeric telephone keypad, providing a mnemonic designation. The area code was activated on April 1, 1996 by division of numbering plan area 809 which used to comprise all Caribbean countries and Bermuda. A permissive dialing period during which the old and the new area code could be used to call the new NPA was in effect for a period of one year until March 31, 1997. Foreign NPA calls to new telephone numbers in 268 required the new area code. For local calling in Antigua and Barbuda, seven-digit dialing is in effect. Foreign NPA direct dialed toll calls must be prefixed by the digit ''1'' (''1'' + 10 digits) while operator-assisted calls require ''0'' (''0'' + 10 digits). International dialing to other countries outside the NANP requires the international dialing prefix ''011'' before country code ...

Area Code
A telephone numbering plan is a type of numbering scheme used in telecommunication to assign telephone numbers to subscriber telephones or other telephony endpoints. Telephone numbers are the addresses of participants in a telephone network, reachable by a system of destination code routing. Telephone numbering plans are defined world-wide, as well as within each of the administrative regions of the public switched telephone network (PSTN), and in private telephone networks. In public numbering systems, geographic location typically plays a role in the sequence of numbers assigned to each telephone subscriber. Many numbering plan administrators subdivide their territory of service into geographic regions designated by a prefix, often called an area code or city code, which is a set of digits forming the most-significant part of the dialing sequence to reach a telephone subscriber. Within such regions designated by area codes, locally unique telephone number are assigned based on ...

Area Codes In The Caribbean
Several countries in the Caribbean participate in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP), which is a telephone numbering plan designed after world War II by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company for initially the United States and Canada. in 1958, AT&T delegated area code 809 for Direct Distance Dialing to the Caribbean to begin integration of the Caribbean telephone networks into the NANP. From 1958 to 1999, most of the British West Indies in the Caribbean Basin, Bermuda, the United States Virgin Islands, U.S. Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico shared area code 809. By the mid-1990s, with the proliferation of fax machines, mobile phones, computers, and pagers in the region, the pool of available central office codes was exhausting. Beginning with Bermuda in November 1994, and The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and Barbados in 1995, several countries in the Caribbean received individual area code assignments from the NANPA, effectively splitting area code 809. List Of Country Calling Codes
Telephone country codes are telephone number prefixes for reaching subscribers in foreign countries or areas by international direct dialing (IDD). Country codes are defined by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in ITU-T standards E.123 and E.164 and constitute the international telephone numbering plan of the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and other networks. Overview This table lists in its first column the initial digits of the country code shared by each country in each row, which is arranged in columns for the last digit (x). When three-digit codes share a common leading pair, the shared prefix is marked by an arrow, () pointing down and left to the three-digit codes. Unassigned codes are denoted by a dash (). Countries are identified by ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country codes; codes for non-geographic services are denoted by two asterisks (). Area Code 664
Area code 664 is a telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for Montserrat, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. The digits of the area code translate to ''MNI'' in the alphanumeric mapping on telephone dials. The area code was created in a split of area code 809, which had been assigned in the 1960s to all of the Caribbean islands. All existing central office codes and telephone numbers were carried from area code 809 to 664, as established. A permissive dialing period was conducted from 1 July 1996 to 1 June 1997 during which use of either area code was permitted for calls into the country terminating in previously established central offices. Destinations with newly issued central office codes required the new area code. A local call within Montserrat is dialed with seven digits. A call from another North American Numbering Plan country (such as the United States or Canada) requires dialing the long-distance access code (''1''), the NPA code, and ...

List Of North American Numbering Plan Area Codes
The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) divides the territories of its members into geographic numbering plan areas (NPAs). Each NPA is identified by one or more numbering plan area codes (''NPA codes'', or ''area code A telephone numbering plan is a type of numbering scheme used in telecommunication to assign telephone numbers to subscriber telephones or other telephony endpoints. A numbering plan area with multiple area codes is called an overlay. Area codes are also assigned for non-geographic purposes. The rules for numbering NPAs do not permit the digits ''0'' and ''1'' in the leading position.AT&T (1955) ''Notes on Distance Dialing'' Area codes with two identical trailing digits are ''easily recognizable codes'' (ERC). North American Numbering Plan
The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) is an integrated telephone numbering plan for twenty-five regions in twenty countries, primarily in North America and the Caribbean. This group is historically known as World Zone 1, World Numbering Zone 1 and has the telephone country code, country code ''1''. Some North American countries, most notably Telephone numbers in Mexico, Mexico, do not participate in the NANP. The concepts of the NANP were devised originally during the 1940s by the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) for the Bell System and the independent telephone companies in North America in Operator Toll Dialing. The first task was to unify the diverse local telephone numbering plans that had been established during the preceding decades, with the goal to speed call completion times and decrease the costs for long-distance calling, by reducing manual labor by switchboard operators. Eventually, it prepared the continent for direct-dialing of long-distance calls ...

Seven-digit Dialing
Seven-digit dialing is a telephone dialing procedure customary in some territories of the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) for dialing telephone numbers in the same numbering plan area (NPA). NANP telephone numbers consist of ten digits, of which the leading three are the area code. In seven-digit dialing it is not necessary to dial the area code. The procedure is also sometimes known as ''local format'' or ''network format''. History Originally, telephone exchanges consisted of manual switchboards operated by switchboard operators. Telephone numbers had typically two to four digits, depending on the size of the community. As the number of subscribers grew, multiple exchanges served individual neighborhoods of large cities. Multiple exchanges were identified by a central office name and typically four digits, such as "Pennsylvania 5000". A rural telephone number, often party line, had often up to four digits and a letter or letter and digits to indicate which of the multiple p ...
