Ards F.C.
Ards Football Club is a semi-professional, Northern Irish football club playing in NIFL Championship. The club is based in Newtownards, but plays its home matches at Clandeboye Park in Bangor, which it rents from rivals Bangor to play home games. The club colours are red and blue. History Castlereagh Park Ards were forced to sell their Castlereagh Park home in 1998 to try to reduce their crippling debts. The stadium remained well tended for another three years while ambitious plans for a new ground further down the road were developed. In 2002 Castlereagh Park was demolished, as planned. Ards hoped to play at a new community-owned site, a stone's throw from Castlereagh Park that was due to be developed in 2010 by the local council. This plan has since been shelved, and they are still the nomads of Northern Irish football. Clandeboye Park
Clandeboye Park, also known for sponsorship reasons as Bangor Fuels Arena, is a Association football, football stadium in Bangor, County Down, Bangor, Northern Ireland. It is the home ground of NIFL Championship side Bangor F.C., Bangor FC and is intended to be the temporary home of fellow NIFL Championship side and local rivals Ards F.C., Ards FC. Bangor FC have been playing in the stadium since 1935 after it was built by the Bangor Borough Council. Ards FC were forced to sell their previous ground Castlereagh Park in 1998 amid mounting financial hardships. 1958–59 European Cup
The 1958–59 European Cup was the fourth season of the European Cup, Europe's premier club football tournament. The competition was won by Real Madrid, who beat Reims 2–0 in the final at Neckarstadion, Stuttgart, on 3 June 1959. This was Real Madrid's fourth European Cup title in a row. The two finalists also competed in the final of the first European Cup in 1956. It was the first time that a team from Finland participated, while Turkey's representative returned to the competition in the presence of Beşiktaş. The UEFA Intertoto Cup (from , "between" and , " betting pool"),Most precisely, from ( football pool); cf. originally called the International Football Cup, was a summer football competition between European clubs. The competition was discontinued after the 2008 tournament. The tournament was founded in 1961–62, but was only taken over by UEFA in 1995. Ards (borough)
Ards (named after the Ards Peninsula) was a local government district in Northern Ireland with the status of borough. It was one of twenty-six districts formed on 1 October 1973, and had its headquarters in Newtownards. It was merged with neighbouring North Down on 1 May 2015 to form the new Borough of Ards and North Down. Other towns in the defunct Borough included Portaferry, Comber, and Donaghadee, and the population of the area was 78,078 according to the 2011 census. Strangford Lough is at the heart of the area, and is the largest inlet in Ireland with internationally renowned wildlife. The Irish Sea coast stretches from Donaghadee to Portaferry. Colin Nixon
Colin Nixon (born 8 September 1978) is a retired footballer from Northern Ireland who was the technical director of Glentoran Academy. Son of Alice and Hugh Nixon, Colin has a large football related family and has three children. Playing career Nixon is the son of Hugh and Alice Nixon, and has five siblings and three children. Colin played for Glentoran for all of his professional career. He has mainly played at right back but can also play centre back. He is a Glentoran supporter, and a fan's favourite. In August 2000, he joined Scottish side Livingston on trial. However nothing materialised from the trial. 'Nicky' is Glentoran's record appearance holder with over 700 appearances, the 700th coming in November 2010 against Portadown at Shamrock Park. Glentoran Football Club is a professional association football, football club based in East Belfast, Northern Ireland, that plays in the NIFL Premiership.
