Archivo Histórico Nacional
The National Historical Archive of Spain (''Archivo Histórico Nacional'') is based in Serrano Street in Madrid. It was founded in the nineteenth century when it shared a building with the Real Academía de la Historia. The collections of the Archive include sections housed outside Madrid, for example the General Archive of the Spanish Civil War in Salamanca. National Archive
National archives are the archives of a country. The concept evolved in various nations at the dawn of modernity based on the impact of nationalism upon bureaucratic processes of paperwork retention. Conceptual development From the Middle Ages into the Early modern period archives generated by royal and clerical institutions retained proofs of political and genealogical claims as a "bastion of authenticity." The emerging Enlightenment concept of studying history as a science rather than as literature was influenced by Leopold von Ranke and brought archives into the limelight of serious historical study. In the late 18th century, the storage of old records was divided. Chamartín (Madrid)
Chamartín is an administrative district of Madrid, Spain and consists of the following neighbourhoods: El Viso, La Prosperidad, Ciudad Jardín, Hispanoamérica, Nueva España, and Castilla. It was originally named Chamartín de la Rosa and remained an independent municipality until it was incorporated to Madrid in 1948. Real Academia De La Historia
The Royal Academy of History (, RAH) is a Spanish institution in Madrid that studies history "ancient and modern, political, civil, ecclesiastical, military, scientific, of letters and arts, that is to say, the different branches of life, of civilisation, and of the culture of the Spanish people". Spanish people in this regard are understood to be citizens of the Kingdom of Spain or the indigenous people of its predecessors, or their descendants. The academy was established by royal decree of Philip V of Spain on 18 April 1738. Its official publication is the '' Boletín de la Real Academia de la Historia''. Building Since 1836 the academy has occupied an 18th-century building designed by the neoclassical architect Juan de Villanueva. The building was originally occupied by the Hieronymites, a religious order. General Archive Of The Spanish Civil War
The General Archive of the Spanish Civil War (Spanish: ''Archivo General de la Guerra Civil Española'') is a specialist archive containing material related to the Spanish Civil War. It is part of Spain's National Historical Archive and is located in Salamanca. The origins of the Civil War Archive, and the decision to house such documents in Salamanca, date back to the 1930s. The Nationalists decreed, on September 13, 1936, that "all properties and documents belonging to the political parties and organizations mentioned, as well as any others that opposed the ''movimiento nacional'', were to become the property of the State." The definition of organizations opposed to the regime was a fairly broad one, as is evidenced by the fact that the archive includes material related to freemasonry; freemasons were one of the groups viewed with suspicion by Franco and membership carried a prison sentence. The National Archives of Spain is a national system of Archives and State Centers maintained by the Archive (''Archivo'') department of the Ministry of Culture (Spain), Spanish Ministry of Culture. Collections The National Archives of Spain consists of a number of different collections. The four main branches of the National Archives of Spain include the General Archive of the Indies in Seville, the Archivo Histórico Nacional, National Historical Archives in Madrid and elsewhere, the General Administrative Archives in Alcala de Henares, and the General Archive of Simancas. The General Administrative Archives, Alcala de Henares, is a repository for the records of the ministries of the central administration, created in 1969 as a replacement for the Central Archive, which was destroyed in a fire in 1939.
