Archie Comic Publications, Inc. (often referred to simply as Archie Comics) is an American comic book publisher headquartered in the village of Pelham, New York. The company's many titles feature the fictional teenagers Archie Andrews, Jughead Jones, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Reggie Mantle, Sabrina Spellman, Josie and the Pussycats and Katy Keene. Maurice Coyne (publisher)
Maurice Coyne (born Morris Cohen, September 15, 1901 – May 9, 1971) was an American publisher of magazines, books, and comic books; together with Louis Silberkleit and John L. Goldwater, he co-founded the company that became known as Archie Comics. With Silberkleit and Goldwater, Coyne also published pulp magazines as part of Columbia Publications, and paperback originals with Belmont Books. Biography Maurice Coyne was born Morris Cohen in the Bronx, New York City. He graduated from high school in 1918 and college in 1924 (where he studied accounting). He soon had his own practice in lower Manhattan at New York Times Building (41 Park Row), 147 Nassau Street, where he was also a CPA and a tax accountant. Coyne's first business affiliation with Silberkleit and Goldwater was in 1934 with their pulp magazine publisher Winford Publications; Coyne served as silent partner and business manager. Robert William Montana (October 23, 1920 – January 4, 1975) was an American comic strip artist who created the original likenesses for characters published by Archie Comics and in the newspaper strip '' Archie''. Early life He was born in Stockton, California, to Roberta Pandolfini Montana and Ray Montana. Both were in show business: Roberta had been a Ziegfeld girl, and Ray performed banjo on the vaudeville circuit. As a result, Bob Montana traveled extensively as a child. Katy Keene is a character created by Bill Woggon that has appeared in several comic book series published by Archie Comics since 1945. She is a model/actress/singer marketed by the publisher as "America's Queen of Pin-Ups and Fashions". In the book ''From Girls to Grrrlz: A History of Women's Comics from Teens to Zines'' by Trina Robbins, Katy Keene is called a Bettie Page look-alike. "... but the resemblance ended there. Readers were encouraged to submit original drawings of outfits and accessories for her and her friends to wear, as well as designs for automobiles, homes, interiors, rocket ships, trailers and boats.
