Arcadia is a neighborhood in the areas of Phoenix and Scottsdale, Arizona. It is bounded 44th Street to 68th Street and Camelback Road to the canal. Arcadia contains well-kept homes on large lots; these homes command relatively high property values (as the neighborhood is adjacent to the upscale suburbs of Paradise Valley, the Biltmore area, Scottsdale and north Phoenix). Built on former citrus groves, Arcadia is known for well-irrigated, mature landscaping. Yards prominently feature orange, lemon and grapefruit trees as reminders of the area's past; the area used to be occupied by citrus farmers from 1919 to the mid-1950s. Arizona Falls
Arizona Falls is a waterfall in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S. It was formed when the man-made Arizona Canal crossed a natural, drop in the area of present-day 56th Street in the Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix. The site became a popular location for social activities before and after being used as a hydroelectric power station that provided the first electricity to Phoenix. After generating power for 50 years, the site was left run down. Modern air conditioning lessened the attraction of the falls and the area was neglected for decades. In the early 2000s, the site was rebuilt both as a public-art project and a functional power station which generates enough electricity to power about 150 average Phoenix homes. Arcadia High School is a public high school in Phoenix. The school has 1,680 students enrolled. Most of them come from feeder schools in the Scottsdale Unified School District. History The school was built 1958/59. It was designed by local architect Mel Ensign and built by Gilbert & Dolan Construction Co. The campus is known for its round buildings and futuristic space age design. Between 2005 and 2008 much of the original campus was demolished and a new campus was built in its place. The new campus was designed by Orcutt/Winslow Partnership and built by DL Withers Construction Co. The circular library is the only original building which remains. Camelback Mountain () is a mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. The English name is derived from its shape, which resembles the hump and head of a kneeling camel. The mountain, a prominent landmark of the Phoenix metropolitan area, is located in the Camelback Mountain Echo Canyon Recreation Area between the Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix and the town of Paradise Valley. It is a popular recreation destination for hiking and rock climbing.
