It rises in eastern Turkey and flows along the borders between Turkey and Armenia, between Turkey and the Nakhchivan exclave of Azerbaijan, between Iran and both Azerbaijan and Armenia, and, finally, through Azerbaijan where it flows into the Kura river. It drains the south side of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains while the Kura drains the north side of the Lesser Caucasus. The river's total length is and its watershed covers an area of . The Aras is one of the longest rivers in the Caucasus. Names In classical antiquity, the river was known to the Greeks as Araxes ( gr, Ἀράξης). The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic ( az, Naxçıvan Muxtar Respublikası, ), is a landlocked exclave of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Hakari (river)
The Hakari ( az, Həkəri, ) is a left tributary of the Aras in Azerbaijan, geographically located in the Armenian Highlands. The river is long and flows through the Lachin, Qubadli and Zangilan districts of Azerbaijan. Its largest tributary is the Vorotan (called ''Bazarchay'' in Azerbaijan), which joins the Hakari in its lowermost section. Several populated places are along the river, like Aganli (on the left bank), Alibayli (on the right bank), Mammadbayli (on the left bank) and Yenikend (on the right bank). Voghji/Oxçu (river)
The Voghji ( hy, Ողջի, translit=Oġǰi) or Okchuchay ( az, Oxçuçay) is a river on the south slopes of the Lesser Caucasus range, and is a left tributary of Aras. It flows through the territory of Armenia and Azerbaijan. In its upper reaches, it has formed a deep canyon which, near the city of Kapan, turns into a wide valley. It is fed by a range of sources. The cities of Zangilan and Mincivan in Azerbaijan and Kajaran and Kapan in Armenia lie along the banks of the river. Along the river, there are the Kapan and Voghji hydroelectric power stations.
