Aracy de Carvalho Guimarães Rosa (née Aracy Moebius de Carvalho) (5 December 1908 – 28 February 2011) was a Brazilian diplomatic clerk who has been recognized with the title of Righteous Among the Nations. Early life Born to a German mother in Rio Negro, Paraná, Aracy de Carvalho was able to speak German, English, French and her native Portuguese. She moved to São Paulo. Luis Martins de Souza Dantas (17 February 1876 – 14 April 1954) was a Brazilian diplomat who was awarded the title Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem in June 2003, for his actions during World War II in helping Jews in France escape The Holocaust. It is estimated he saved 800 people, 425 confirmed to be Jewish. His actions were not limited to saving Jews, but also other persecuted groups, such as communists and homosexuals. Early life and career Souza Dantas was born to an aristocratic family in Brazil. After completing law studies at age 21, he entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He rose through the ranks of the diplomatic service and served in various world capitals. In 1916, during World War I, he was appointed interim foreign minister for a few months.
