Approval Voting Party
The Approval Voting Party (AVP) is a single-issue American political party dedicated to implementing approval voting in the United States. In 2019, the party became recognized as a minor party in Colorado. History The Approval Voting Party was co-founded by Blake Huber and Frank Atwood. The party ran Huber for the position of Colorado Secretary of State in 2018. Huber received 13,258 votes, 0.5 percent of all cast, behind the Democratic, Republican, and Constitution Party nominees. In October 2019, the party received minor party status in Colorado after surpassing 1,000 registered members. In 2019, Atwood, a member of the Littleton, Colorado election commission, attempted to pass a measure that would have implemented approval voting in non-partisan municipal elections within that town. The Center for Election Science (CES) is an American 501(c)(3) electoral reform advocacy organization. It advocates for cardinal voting methods such as approval voting and score voting. Its goal is to implement approval voting in at least five cities with 50,000 people by 2022. ''The Durango Herald'' is a newspaper in Durango, Colorado. The first edition of the ''Herald'' came out June 30, 1881. Two years later, the ''Herald'' merged with the ''Record'', which had started publishing in 1880, seven months before the ''Herald''. The modern ''Herald'' traces its roots to both papers but the current ''Herald'' nameplate cites 1881 as the paper's founding year. The paper was combined in 1952 after Arthur and Morley Cowles Ballantine purchased the ''Herald-Democrat'' and the ''News''. In 1960, the name was changed to ''The Durango Herald''. Arthur was co-editor and co-publisher of the paper from 1952 until 1975. Morley was also co-editor and co-publisher and took over as chairman and editor after Arthur's death.
