''Ape Escape'' is a series of video games developed primarily by Japan Studio and published and owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The series incorporates ape-related humour, unique gameplay, and a wide variety of popular culture, pop culture references. Ape Escape (video game), The first game in the series is the first game to require the DualShock or Dual Analog controller to play. History The game was developed in 1997 under the name ''Sarugetchu'', and was the first game to explicitly require the DualShock controller. The game was a success, going Platinum, entering the Greatest Hits series in the US, and entered the "Best Of" releases in Japan. It was reviewed positively, and was compared to games such as ''Super Mario 64''. ''Ape Escape 2001'' was released in 2001. It is the first game in the series to have been developed for PlayStation 2. Japan Studio
Japan Studio was a Japanese video game developer of Sony Interactive Entertainment based in Tokyo. It was best known for the '' Ape Escape'', '' LocoRoco'', '' Patapon'', '' Gravity Rush'', and '' Knack'' series, '' Ico'', ''Shadow of the Colossus'' and '' Astro's Playroom''. In April 2021, Japan Studio was reorganized and merged with Team Asobi and other SIE studios. History Sony Computer Entertainment was founded in Tokyo on 16 November 1993, jointly established by Sony and Sony Music Entertainment Japan. The studio was run similar to Sony Music Entertainment Japan during its first few years, with producers seeking out creative talent and nurturing them to help develop new games. ''Ape Academy 2'', also known as in Japan, is a party video game developed by Shift and Alvion and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation Portable. It is the sequel to '' Ape Escape Academy''. Similar to its predecessor, ''Ape Academy 2'' is a collection of mini-games which can either be played in single player or multiplayer mode. Most of the mini-games borrow from elements of '' Ape Escape 3''. The original PlayStation Portable version of the game was released in Japan, Europe and Australia, but not North America. ''Ape Escape 3'' is a 2005 platform game developed and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 2. The game has been rated for release on PlayStation 4 but no announcement of its release has been made. Plot Specter, the Pipo Monkeys' leader, finds a Monkey Helmet, and hires the human scientist to aid him in his evil plans. They establish television stations protected by the Freaky Monkey Five where they plan to broadcast TV shows worldwide. Monkey is a common name that may refer to most mammals of the infraorder Simiiformes, also known as simians. Traditionally, all animals in the group now known as simians are counted as monkeys except the apes.
