Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn (AMLÉ), formerly known as the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), is the national representative body for third-level students in Ireland, being an confederal organisation consisting of third-level students' unions. Founded in 1959, it represents more than 374,000 students in over forty colleges across the island of Ireland. Former presidents of the organisation include former Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore, former Chief Justice John L. Murray (1966/67), and broadcaster Joe Duffy (1983–84). In May 2025, the organisation officially changed name from its original English title, the Union of Students in Ireland (USI), to its Irish language name, ''Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn'' (AMLÉ), following the passing of a constitutional amendment at its 2025 Comhdháil. Technological Universities In Ireland
A Technological University is a designation of a type of third-level institution in Ireland. The potential for such universities was established through legislation in 2018. Since then, various groups of institutes of technology began a merger process to create five technological universities: * Technological University Dublin was established in January 2019 as the result of a merger of the three Institutes of Technology in the County Dublin area. South Eastern Regional College
South Eastern Regional College (SERC) is a further and higher education college in the south-east of Northern Ireland. SERC was created following the merger of three institutes of further and higher education in the south-east of Northern Ireland. These were East Down Institute, Lisburn Institute and North Down and Ards Institute. The merger took effect from August 2007. The college was inspected in 2009 by the Education and Training Inspectorate, with the finding that "the quality of education and training provided by the South Eastern Regional College is good". South West College is a regional further education college in Northern Ireland that operates on four campuses in Cookstown, Dungannon, Enniskillen and Omagh. Formed in 2007, following a merger of a number of former regional colleges of further and higher education, it has campuses in County Tyrone and County Fermanagh. As of 2008, the college had an enrolment of 12,078 students (of which 1,695 were full-time and 10,383 part-time). By 2023, South West College had approximately 19,000 students enrolled. Southern Regional College (SRC) is a further and higher education college in the southern area of Northern Ireland in the United Kingdom. It was formed in 2007 following a merger of the Further Education colleges of Armagh College, Newry and Kilkeel Institute, and the Upper Bann Institute. The College has a total of 5 campuses incorporating the two council areas of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon and Newry, Mourne and Down.
