Antônio Imbassahy
Antônio José Imbassahy da Silva, or simply Antônio Imbassahy, (born 12 March 1948) is a Brazilian politician and electrical engineer, former governor of Bahia and former mayor of Salvador. Elected federal deputy by the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), da Silva was chosen leader of the party in the Chamber of Deputies (Brazil), Chamber of Deputies in December 2015 and took office on 2 February 2016. Also, in December of the same year, Imbassahy was chosen to be Secretary of Government, replacing Geddel Vieira Lima. Resigned in 8 December 2017, one day before the national convention of the PSDB, which officialized its departure from the government. The Chamber of Deputies () is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current president of the chamber is the Deputy Hugo Motta ( Republicanos- PB), who was elected on 1 February 2025. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population. The Federal University of Bahia (, UFBA) is a public university located mainly in the city of Salvador. It is the largest university in the state of Bahia. Students can study there without paying tuition fees, as it is a public university. To join the university they must pass an annual examination, known as the " ENEM" (National High School Exam). History UFBA was created on April 8, 1946, through Decree-Law 9155. Earlier, the Federal University of Bahia was formed by the School of Medicine and their associated schools, Dentistry and Pharmacy, and the schools of Philosophy, Economics, Law beyond the Polytechnic School. The actual installation of the university took place on July 2, 1946, the oldest center of higher education in the country, the School of Medicine at the Shrine of Jesus.
