António Marto
António Augusto dos Santos Marto GCIH (; born 5 May 1947) is a Portuguese prelate of the Catholic Church. He served as the Bishop of Leiria-Fátima from 2006 to 2022. Pope Francis elevated him to cardinal on 28 June 2018. Biography Early life António Marto was born on 5 May 1947 in Tronco, a small village of roughly 500 population, in Chaves, rural Portugal. His family was traditionally Catholic, and of humble background. His father, Serafim Augusto Marto, was a Fiscal Guard and his mother, Maria da Purificação Correia dos Santos, a schoolteacher. António was the youngest of four siblings, two of which died before he was born at age 4 and age 6, respectively; the latter was crushed in a brutal accident when the axle of an ox cart broke on the way back from the grape harvest. Prelate
A prelate () is a high-ranking member of the Christian clergy who is an ordinary or who ranks in precedence with ordinaries. The word derives from the Latin , the past participle of , which means 'carry before', 'be set above or over' or 'prefer'; hence, a prelate is one set over others. Pupilos Do Exército
The ''Pupilos do Exército'' ( Portuguese for "pupils of the Army") is military vocational education school of Portugal. Presently, its complete official name is ''Instituto dos Pupilos do Exército'' (IPE, Institute of the Pupils of the Army). ''Pupilos do Exército'' offers Basic (2nd and 3rd cycles) and Secondary Education programmes, in the boarding school (only for young males) and in the day school (for both sexes) systems.
