Antonín Honig
Antonín Honig was a Czech cyclist who represented Czechoslovakia. In 1926, he was the Czechoslovak national champion, and he took part in the 1926 UCI Road World Championships. Czechoslovakia At The Olympics
Czechoslovakia first participated at the Olympic Games in 1918, after having competed as Bohemia from 1900 to 1912. The nation sent athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games since then, except for the 1984 Games when they were part of the Soviet-led boycott of the 1984 Summer Olympics. Czechoslovakia has participated in every Winter Olympic Games since the inaugural Games of 1924. After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the Czech Republic and Slovakia sent independent teams to the Olympics starting in 1994. Czechoslovak athletes have won a total of 143 medals at the Summer Games, mostly in gymnastics. The 1928 Summer Olympics (), officially the Games of the IX Olympiad (), was an international multi-sport event that was celebrated from 28 July to 12 August 1928 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The city of Amsterdam had previously bid for the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games. Still, it was obliged to give way to war-torn Antwerp in Belgium for the 1920 Summer Olympics, 1920 Games and Pierre de Coubertin's Paris for the 1924 Summer Olympics, 1924 Games. The only other candidate city for the 1928 Olympics was Los Angeles, which would eventually be selected to host the Olympics four years later. In preparation for the 1932 Summer Olympics, the United States Olympic Committee reviewed the costs and revenue of the 1928 Games. The committee reported a total cost of United States dollar, US$1.183 million with receipts of US$1.165 million, giving a negligible loss of US$18,000, which was a considerable improvement over the 1924 Games. Josef Josten
Josef Josten (25 March 1913 29 November 1985) was an exiled Czech journalist, publisher and campaigner. His early life in Czechoslovakia included two escapes, firstly from military occupation and secondly after a political coup. In his subsequent career in the UK, he warned of the dangers of authoritarianism, particularly communism. Josten was the first Western journalist to report on the Soviet atom bomb test, organised a major international exhibition of political cartoons and ran a campaign for the release of the imprisoned dissident Vaclav Havel. Later in life, he won a degree of public recognition in the UK, but he did not live to see the eventual change of regime in Prague for which he had worked.
