Antonio Orlando Rodríguez (born 30 June 1956, Ciego de Ávila) is a Cubans, Cuban writer, journalist and critic. Born in Havana, he studied journalism at the University of Havana. The author of numerous books for children and young adults, he also writes literary fiction for adults. He won the Alfaguara Prize for his 2008 novel ''Chiquita'', based on the life of Espiridiona Cenda. Ciego De Ávila
Ciego de Ávila () is a city in the central part of Cuba and the capital of Ciego de Ávila Province. The capital city has a population of about 156,322 and the province 430,507. Geography Ciego de Ávila lies on the Carretera Central highway and on a major railroad. Its port, Júcaro, lies south-southwest on the coast of the Gulf of Ana Maria of the Caribbean Sea, in the adjacent municipality of Venezuela. The city is located about east of Havana and west of the city of Camagüey. It was part of the Camagüey Province until 1976, when Fidel Castro's government made Ciego de Ávila the capital of the newly created Ciego de Ávila Province. By 1945, the municipality was divided into the barrios of Angel Castillo, Ceballos, Guanales, Jagüeyal, Jicotea, José Miguel Gómez, Júcaro, La Ceiba, Majagua, Norte, San Nicolás and Sur. Alize Espiridiona Cenda del Castillo (14 December 1869 – 11 December 1945), known on stage as Chiquita, was a Cuban dwarf singer and performer. At 26 inches tall, she had built for her by C. Francis Jenkins what was in 1901 then the smallest automobile ever built. Cenda was married and had one child, which weighed no more than two pounds and died at an early age.
