Antoine Louis Marie de Gramont, 8th Duke of Gramont (17 August 1755 – 28 August 1836), was the 8th Duke of Gramont, he was also Prince of Bidache. Antoine served as a French military officer, diplomat and parliamentarian. Early life and career Antoine Louis Marie de Gramont was born on 17 August 1775, in Paris, France. Prior to his marriage he was known by the courtesy title of ''Comte de Louvigny''. On 16 April 1780, Antoine married Aglaé de Polignac (1768–1803), the daughter of Yolande de Polastron, Yolande de Polastron, Duchess of Polignac. The couple managed to reproduce 3 children; Corisande de Gramont (1782 – 1865), Aglaé de Gramont (1787 – 1842), and Héraclius de Gramont, 9th Duke of Gramont (1789 – 1855. The title of Duke of Gramont (''duc de Gramont'') is a French List of French dukedoms, dukedom and former List of French peerages, peerage. It was created in 1648 for French Marshal Antoine III de Gramont. History The family of Gramont was a Kingdom of Navarre, Navarrese medieval noble house and owned the chateau of Bidache. They held land in Lower Navarre and in neighbouring Gascony, part of the kingdom of France. As their liege lords, the kings of Navarre, they played an active role in French politics. The last heiress of the house, Claire de Gramont (died in 1534) wed Menaut d'Aure and their son Antoine took the name Gramont rather than d'Aure. Antoine de Gramont was a leading noblemen in south-west France during the Wars of Religion. At first, a Calvinist and lieutenant general to Jeanne III of Navarra, Queen Jeanne d'Albret, he switched sides to Catholicism and King Charles IX's service.
