Annie Wu (actress)
Annie Wu (born 21 August 1978) is a Taiwanese actress and model. She has mainly acted in mainland Chinese TV series, and was featured in Jackie Chan's '' Police Story 4: First Strike''. Though not fluent in Cantonese, she has also been featured in several Hong Kong films and magazine spreads. During her part in ''First Strike'', Jackie Chan joked how horrible her Cantonese was and subsequently her voice was dubbed over with another voice. After several years with small parts in Hong Kong movies she is no longer active in the Hong Kong entertainment scene, and has primarily acted in roles in China. As of 2007 she is still acting and maintains a blog about her life. She's currently featured in a Korean/China co-produced series called ''Mama's Soup House.'' In 2012, Wu married Aaron Liao, the son of Liao Hui, a former vice chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. They have one daughter, Mia, born in 2014. Liao Hui (; born May 1942 in Hong Kong) is the former director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Since March 2003, he has also served as the second vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), in charge of the affairs of the Chinese Communist Party in Hong Kong and Macau. Eighteen Springs (film)
''Eighteen Springs'' () is a 1997 romantic drama directed by Ann Hui and starring Jacklyn Wu, Leon Lai, Anita Mui, Huang Lei and Ge You. It is a China-Hong Kong co-production, based on the novel of the same name by Eileen Chang. The film depicts the ill-fated romance between two Chinese lovers in Shanghai and Nanjing during the 1930s and 1940s, which destined them to be apart for more than a decade. The film marked the second time Hui directed an Eileen Chang adaptation (the first was 1984’s '' Love in a Fallen City''). Title The novel was originally serialized in Shanghai’s ''Yibao'' (亦报) in 1950–1951. Pontianak (folklore)
The Kuntilanak (Indonesian name), also called Pontianak (Malay name), is a mythological creature in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. It is similar to Langsuir in other Southeast Asia regions. The Kuntilanak usually takes the form of a pregnant woman who died during childbirth. Alternatively, it is often described as a vengeful female spirit. Another form of the Kuntilanak refers to the ghost or white lady of Southeast Asian folklore. The Kuntilanak is often depicted as a long-haired woman dressed in white. She lures in unsuspecting men to incite fear and enact revenge. Signs that a Kuntilanak is nearby include the sound of an infant crying and the smell of a decaying corpse or the plumeria flower. Etymology Kuntilanak or Pontianak is often described as an astral female spirit; another version of this figure is a woman spirit with long sharp fangs and fingernails.
