Anna Söderberg
Anna Söderberg (born 11 June 1973) is a Swedish former discus thrower. Her personal best throw of 64.54 metres, achieved in July 1999 in Aremark, is the Swedish record for the event. She has represented her country at the Olympic Games on three occasions – in 2000, 2004 and 2008. She has also competed at the World Championships in Athletics, taking part in every edition from 1997 to 2009 with the sole exception of the 2001 World Championships. Söderberg competed for the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks track and field team, where she won the program's first NCAA DI individual title in any track event. At European level, she has taken part in the quadrennial European Athletics Championships three times; her best performance at the competition is eleventh place, which she achieved in both 2006 and 2010. Discus Throw
The discus throw (), also known as disc throw, is a track and field sport in which the participant athlete throws an oblate spheroid weight (object), weight called a discus in an attempt to mark a further distance than other competitors. It is an classical antiquity, ancient sport, as demonstrated by the fifth-century-BC Myron statue ''Discobolus''. Although not part of the current pentathlon, it was one of the events of the Ancient Olympic pentathlon, ancient Greek pentathlon, which can be dated back to at least 708 BC, and it is part of the modern decathlon. 1997 World Championships In Athletics
The 6th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the World Athletics, International Amateur Athletic Federation, were held at the Olympic Stadium (Athens), Olympic Stadium, Athens, Greece between 1 and 10 August 1997. In this event participated 1882 athletes from 198 participant nations. Athletics At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Women's Discus Throw
The Women's Discus Throw event at the 2000 Summer Olympics as part of the athletics program was held at the Olympic Stadium on Monday, 25 September and Wednesday, 27 September. The qualifying athletes progressed through to the final where the qualifying distances are scrapped and they start afresh with up to six throws. The qualifying distance was set at 63.00 metres.
