The Anglican Senior High School, Kumasi, is a Mixed-sex education, co-educational Public school (government funded), public high school situated in Asem, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. Founded in 1965, the present headmistress is Ms. Rebecca Tetteh. Crest The school's Crest (heraldry), crest is composed of four elements: a golden shield with purple outline; a purple and white bishop's mitre; a purple Akan people, Akan male stool; and a white scroll bearing the motto of the school, "Unity, truth and service". The shield refers to the "shield of faith" in Ephesians 6:16. The shield is also a symbol of defence and security. The indigenous Akan male stool in the centre of the insignia represents the contribution of traditional authorities towards the establishment and growth of the school. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong ( ; 23 September 1931 – 16 June 1979) was a Ghanaian military officer and politician who was the military head of state of Ghana from 13 January 1972 to 5 July 1978, when he was deposed in a palace coup. He was executed by firing squad on 16 June 1979. Early life and education Acheampong was born to Catholic parents of Ashanti origin. His parents were James Kwadwo Kutu Acheampong, a Catholic Catechist, and Madam Akua Manu. He attended the Roman Catholic schools at Trabuom and the St Peter's school (also Catholic) at Kumasi, both in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He attended the then Central College of Commerce at Agona Swedru in the Central Region of Ghana. Education in Ghana uses a dualistic approach encompassing both formal and informal learning systems. The current formal educational system was introduced during European colonisation. However, learning systems existed prior to that. The Moliyili, University of Moliyili is one of the earliest learning centers in Ghana established in the 1700s.
