Angel, Angel, Down We Go
''Angel, Angel, Down We Go'', also known as ''Cult of the Damned'', is a 1969 American film directed by playwright and screenwriter Robert Thom, his sole directorial credit. Thom based his screenplay on an unproduced stage play of the same title that he had written several years earlier as a vehicle for his wife, actress Janice Rule. The film was produced by Sam Katzman's Four Leaf Productions and distributed by American International Pictures. Plot The overweight, emotionally troubled daughter of an affluent but brittle Hollywood couple becomes involved with a charismatic rock singer and his friends. The singer proceeds to seduce and manipulate her entire family. Robert Thom (writer)
Robert Thom (July 2, 1929 – May 8, 1979) was an American writer of films, plays, novels and poems. He is best known for writing the screenplay for '' Death Race 2000'' (1975), produced by Roger Corman's New World and directed by Paul Bartel. Early life Born Robert Thom in Brooklyn, New York, to mother Lily Pendlebury, he had a sister. Thom graduated from Yale University as a promising poet in 1952 and became a Rhodes Scholar. He studied in Oxford for a year. Career He sold his first play, ''The Minotaur'', to the Circle in the Square Theatre producers, José Quintero, Ted Mann, Emilie Stevens and Jason Wingreen, in 1954. He continued and succeeded in establishing himself as a young playwriting talent in the New York City theater scene. In 1957, he came to Broadway to work on ''Compulsion'', based on the book and play by Meyer Levin about the Leopold and Loeb case. ''Viva Hate'' is the debut solo studio album by English singer Morrissey. It was released on 14 March 1988 by His Master's Voice, six months after the final studio album by the Smiths, ''Strangeways, Here We Come'' (1987). Vini Reilly, the leader of the English post-punk band the Durutti Column, played guitar on the album. Producer Stephen Street, who had contributed to multiple Smiths releases, served as the bassist and wrote the music. Background ''Viva Hate'' origins date to when Smiths co-producer Stephen Street sent Morrissey demos that could potentially be used for Smiths B-sides released after Johnny Marr's departure from the band.
