András Gyárfás
András Gyárfás (born 1945) is a Hungarian mathematician who specializes in the study of graph theory. He is famous for two conjectures: * Together with Paul Erdős he conjectured what is now called the Erdős–Gyárfás conjecture which states that any graph with minimum degree 3 contains a cycle whose length is a power of two. * He and David Sumner independently formulated the Gyárfás–Sumner conjecture according to which, for every tree ''T'', the ''T''-free graphs are χ-bounded In graph theory, a \chi-bounded family \mathcal of graphs is one for which there is some function f such that, for every integer t the graphs in \mathcal with t=\omega(G) ( clique number) can be colored with at most f(t) colors. The function f(t) .... Gyárfás began working as a researcher for the Computer and Automation Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1968. He is director of the Institute of Mathematics of the Faculty of Sciences of the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. Mathematical work Using the LLL-algorithm, Frank, and his student, Éva Tardos developed a general method, which could transform some polynomial-time algorithms into strong polynomial. He solved the problem of finding the minimum number of edges to be added to a given undirected graph so that in the resulting graph the edge-connectivity between any two vertices ''u'' and ''v'' is at least a predetermined number ''f''(''u'',''v''). Degrees, awards He received the Candidate of Mathematical Science degree in 1980, advisor: László Lovász, and the Doctor of Mathematical Science degree (1990) from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. In 1998 he was an Invited Speaker of the International Congress of Mathematicians ...

András Fejér
András Fejér (born 1955) is a Hungarian cellist. He is a member of the Takács Quartet, having founded it with three classmates at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in 1975. He was born into a musical family and became familiar with the chamber music repertoire at an early age, as his parents would spend the weekends playing music with their friends. András himself began playing the cello at age seven, and legend has it that he originally wanted to play violin, but his father, unwilling to listen to the terrible scratching sounds produced by beginning violinists, forbade it. In 1974, he entered the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where he studied with Ede Banda, András Mihály, Ferenc Rados and György Kurtág. Notably, he studied Bartok’s music with the violinist Zoltán Székely, to whom Bartok dedicated his Second Violin Concerto. In 1982, he and his colleagues in the Takács Quartet moved to Boulder, Colorado and took up the position of quartet-in-residen ...
