Andriace
Andriake or Andriaca () was an ancient city and the port of the ancient town of Myra in Lycia. It is in the modern Demre district of Antalya Province, in south-western Turkey. The site has a museum. History Andriake is mentioned by Ptolemy; and Pliny has ''Andriaca civitas'', Myra (v. 27). Appian (''B.C.'' iv. 82) says that in 42 BC Lentulus was sent by Brutus to collect money and broke through the chain which defended the entrance to the port, and went up the river to Myra. Beaufort (Karamania, p. 26) gives the name ''Andráki'' to the river of Myra. Andriake is clearly the port on the small river on which Myra stood, 20 stadia higher up. ( Strab. p. 666.) It must have been at Andriake, as Cramer observes, that St. Paul and his companion prisoners were put on board the Alexandrian ship sailing for Italy. (Acts, xxvii. 5, 6.) Demre
Demre is a municipality and district of Antalya Province, Turkey. Its area is 329 km2, and its population is 27,691 (2022). It was named after the river Demre. Demre is the Lycian town of Myra, the home of Saint Nicholas of Myra. The district was known as ''Kale'' until it was renamed in 2005. A substantial Christian community of Greeks lived in Demre until the 1920s when they migrated to Greece as part of the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey. A small population of Turkish farmers moved into the region when the Greeks migrated. The region is popular with tourists today, particularly Christian pilgrims who visit the tomb of Saint Nicholas. Geography Demre is on the coast of the Teke peninsula, west of the bay of Antalya, with the Taurus Mountains behind. Andriake Synagogue
The Andriake Synagogue is a former ancient Jewish synagogue, that was discovered in Andriake, an ancient city in the historical region of Lycia, in Asia Minor Anatolia (), also known as Asia Minor, is a peninsula in West Asia that makes up the majority of the land area of Turkey. It is the westernmost protrusion of Asia and is geographically bounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the south, the Aegean .... The building, that is now an archaeological site, was found in the town of Demre in the Antalya Province, Antalya province, on the southwestern tip of modern-day Turkey. The synagogue is placed on a hilltop overlooking Andriake's harbor. The site is located in the former major port city of Myra, which was the capital of the Lycian civilization.
