Andreja Kulunčić
Andreja Kulunčić (born 1968) is a contemporary Croatian artist, living and working in Zagreb, Croatia. In her art practice she deals with current social issues by appropriating various conventional forms of communication, for example: radio shows, advertisements, newspaper articles, etc. Her art focuses on the communication of concepts and ideas on socially engaged themes, and is thus process orientated as opposed to object based. Since 2009, she has been working in the University of Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts in the New Media department. She has participated in numerous exhibitions in Croatia and abroad, the most significant ones being: Documenta 11 (Kassel, Germany, 2002), Manifesta 4 (Frankfurt/Main, Germany, 2002), 8th International Istanbul Biennial (Turkey, 2003), ''The American Effect'' at Whitney Museum of American Art (New York, 2003), Liverpool Biennial (UK, 2004) and ''Day Labor'' at P.S.1 (New York, 2005). University Of Zagreb Academy Of Fine Arts
The Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb ( or ALU) is a Croatian art school based in Zagreb. It is one of the three art academies affiliated with the University of Zagreb, along with the Academy of Dramatic Art (ADU) and the Academy of Music (MUZA). The Academy was established in June 1907 as the ''Royal College for Arts and Crafts'' () and initially had three departments, for sculpting, painting and art education. Academy's first professors were Robert Frangeš-Mihanović, Rudolf Valdec, Robert Auer, Oton Iveković, Bela Čikoš Sesija, Menci Klement Crnčić and Branko Šenoa. Documenta
Documenta (often stylized documenta) is an Art exhibition, exhibition of contemporary art which takes place every five years in Kassel, Germany. Documenta was founded by artist, teacher and curator Arnold Bode in 1955 as part of the Bundesgartenschau (Federal Horticultural Show) which took place in Kassel at that time. It was an attempt to bring Germany up to speed with modern art, both banishing and repressing the cultural darkness of Nazism. This first Documenta featured many artists who are generally considered to have had a significant influence on modern art (such as Pablo Picasso, Picasso and Wassily Kandinsky, Kandinsky). The more recent editions of the event feature artists based across the world, but much of the art is Site-specific art, site-specific. Manifesta
Manifesta, also known as the European Nomadic Biennial, is a European pan-regional contemporary cultural biennale. History Manifesta was founded in 1994 by Dutch art historian Hedwig Fijen. The first edition took place in Rotterdam. One of the coordinators in Rotterdam was Thomas Meyer zu Schlochtern of the Rotterdamse Kunststichting. Among the local artists brought into the international scene, were Jeanne van Heeswijk, Bik Van Der Pol, and Joep van Lieshout. The 2006 edition of Manifesta was set to happen in Nicosia, Cyprus, under the direction of Florian Waldvogel, Mai Abu ElDahab, and Anton Vidokle. In June 2006, Nicosia for Art, the city-run nonprofit organization sponsoring the exhibition, cancelled the event due to political turmoil around the green line of Nicosia. The Istanbul Biennial is a contemporary art exhibition that has been held biennially in Istanbul, Turkey, since 1987. The Biennial has been organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSV) since its inception. Istanbul Biennial plays a crucial role in the cultural life by bringing together local and international artists to initiate a productive conversation for a wide range of audiences, such as art professionals, students, as well as pensioners. Format Istanbul Biennial adheres to an exhibition model in which the curator, appointed by an international advisory board, develops a conceptual framework according to which a variety of artists and projects are invited to the exhibition. The Visible Ones (exhibition)
The Visible Ones (Croatian title: ''VIDLJIVE'') is a multi–institutional project and exhibition of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Zagreb, Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU) in Zagreb, with the Museum of Modern Art, Dubrovnik, Museum of Modern Art in Dubrovnik, Museum of Fine Arts, Osijek, Museum of Fine Arts (MLU) in Osijek, Gallery of Fine Arts, Split, Gallery of Fine Arts in Split, Croatia, Split, and Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rijeka, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMSU) in Rijeka.
