Andrei Sakharov Research Center For Democratic Development
The Andrei Sakharov Research Center for Democratic Development (LT - Andrejaus Sacharovo demokratijos plėtros tyrimų centras, acronyms - ASRC, ASRCDD) is a university think tank which encompasses academic events, publications and archival holdings. The Center was founded in December 2017 at the Vytautas Magnus University (VMU). The Center organizes annual international scientific conferences, historical and educational exhibitions, workshops and a number of other events, as well as conducts relevant research, publishes academic papers and other publications. The Center also functions as an archive of a vast variety of books, documents and other archival material on the Eastern European and post-Soviet space, political science, history (especially since the World War II period), dissident movements, political freedom, resistance, international relations and others. A think tank, or policy institute, is a research institute that performs research and advocacy concerning topics such as social policy, political strategy, economics, military, technology, and culture. Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) ( lt, Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas (VDU)) is a public university in Kaunas, Lithuania. The university was founded in 1922 during the interwar period as an alternate national university. Vilnius Town Hall ( lt, Vilniaus rotušė) is a historical town hall in the square of the same name in the Old Town of Vilnius, Lithuania. Palace The town hall in Vilnius was mentioned for the first time in 1432. Initially it was a Gothic style building, and has since been reconstructed many times. The current Vilnius Town Hall was rebuilt in neoclassical style according to the design by Laurynas Gucevičius in 1799. It has remained unchanged since then. The Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės valdovų rūmai Vilniaus žemutinėje pilyje; pl, Zamek Dolny w Wilnie) is a palace in Vilnius, Lithuania. It was originally constructed in the 15th century for the rulers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the future Kings of Poland. The palace, located in the lower castle of Vilnius, evolved over the years and prospered during the 16th and mid-17th centuries. For four centuries the palace was the political, administrative and cultural centre of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was demolished in 1801. Pavel Mikhailovich Litvinov (russian: Па́вел Миха́йлович Литви́нов; born 6 July 1940) is a Russian-born U.S. physicist, writer, teacher, human rights activist and former Soviet-era dissident. Peter Reddaway
Peter Reddaway (born September 18, 1939) is a British-American political scientist, a Russia expert, known primarily for his study of its human rights and dissident movement. Peter Reddaway graduated from Cambridge University and did graduate studies at Harvard, Moscow State University, and the London School of Economics and Political Science where he later taught. Reddaway moved to the United States in the 1980s and served as Director of the Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies (1986–89). From 1989 until his retirement in 2004, he was Professor of Political Science at the George Washington University, teaching courses on Soviet and post-Soviet affairs, and on human rights, and a multi-disciplinary introduction to Russia and Eastern Europe.
