Andreas Hølaas
Andreas Olsen Hølaas (28 July 1832 – 17 July 1907) was a Norwegian civil servant, auditor and politician for the Liberal Party. He was born in Leksvik Municipality as a son of farmers. He finished secondary education as a private candidate in 1862, and took the cand.jur. degree in 1866. He worked as a clerk in the Norwegian Ministry of the Navy and Postal Affairs until he was hired in the Norwegian Ministry of Auditing in 1875. From 1881 to 1888 he was one of the Auditors-General. He was selected by the Parliament of Norway, where he had contacts, among others to Johan Sverdrup, because of his involvement since 1879 in the Liberal Party. He was also involved in Kristiania Arbeidersamfund, and edited their publications ''Samfundet'' and ''Demokraten''. He was also a Landsmål/Nynorsk proponent. Liberal Party (Norway)
The Liberal Party (, , V; ) is a social liberal political party in Norway. It was founded in 1884 and is the oldest political party in Norway. Despite its native name, the Liberal Party is positioned in the centre on the political spectrum, and usually cooperates much more with the right wing parties. It is a liberal party which has over the time enacted reforms such as parliamentarism, freedom of religion, universal suffrage, and state schooling. For most of the late 19th and early 20th century, it was Norway's largest and dominant political party, but in the postwar era it lost most of its support and became a relatively small party. The party has nevertheless participated in several centrist and centre-right government coalitions in the postwar era. Evje (village)
Evje is the administrative centre of Evje og Hornnes municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located along the river Otra. It sits along the Norwegian National Road 9, about south of the village of Byglandsfjorden and immediately north of Evjemoen, a former military base. Historically, the village of Evje was the administrative centre of the municipality of Evje og Vegusdal from 1838 until 1877, then from 1877 until 1960 it was the administrative centre of the municipality of Evje, and since then it has been the centre of Evje og Hornnes municipality. The Evje Church lies on the north end of the village on the east shore of the river Otra, and the Hornnes Church lies about to the south on the west shore of the river Otra. Hornnes Church is actually located in the small village of Hornnes which is considered a part of the Evje urban area. Odd Hølaas
Oddleiv Sigurd Bang Hølaas (27 March 1898 – 2 March 1968) was a Norwegian journalist and writer. He won the Riksmål Society Literature Prize in 1964. He was born in Tveit as a son of physician Oddleiv Magne Hølaas (1869–1915) and Aasta Bang (1867–1953). He was a paternal grandson of Andreas Hølaas. He finished secondary education in 1917, and was hired in the newspaper '' Christianssands Tidende''. Already in 1918 he went on to ''Nationen'', and in 1924 to ''Tidens Tegn''. In July 1926 he married Kjellaug Skajaa (1906–1990). He remained in ''Tidens Tegn'' until 1940. The newspaper was closed in 1941. This was during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany, and he was arrested on 12 May 1942. He was incarcerated in Bredtveit concentration camp until 24 September 1942. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. He took the examen artium in Stavanger in 1949, and a teacher's education in Kristiansand in 1952. He studied philology in Oslo and Bergen, and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1957. Setesdalen
Setesdal (; older name: Sætersdal) is a valley and a traditional district in Agder County in southern Norway. It consists of the municipalities of Bykle, Valle, Bygland, Iveland, and Evje og Hornnes. The Otra river flows through the valley of Setesdal into the sea near Kristiansand. It flows southward from the Hardangervidda plateau in Telemark. The historic Setesdal starts at Evje and extends as far as the farm Bjåen, at the edge of the traditional region of Telemark. Øvre (Upper) Setesdal is in the municipality of Bykle. The municipalities of Iveland, Evje & Hornes and Bygland comprise the Nedre (Lower) Setesdal. Valle municipality is in the middle of the Setesdal valley.
