Anders Bäckström
Anders Bäckström (born December 12, 1960) is a former Sweden, Swedish professional ice hockey defenceman who played for Brynäs IF of the Swedish Swedish Hockey League, Elitserien. He was drafted by the New York Rangers in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, but never made it to the NHL, playing 311 games in the SEL, scoring 28 goals and 66 assists for 94 total points. He also served as the team manager for Brynäs IF from 1999 to 2002 and was an assistant coach for the team in the 2004–05 season. His son, Nicklas Bäckström, Nicklas, plays for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League, NHL. Defenceman
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from Goal (ice hockey), scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). 1980 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships
The 1980 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (''1980 WJHC'') was the fourth edition of the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship and was held from December 27, 1979, until January 2, 1980. The tournament was held in Helsinki, Finland. The Soviet Union won its fourth consecutive gold medal, while Finland won the silver, and Sweden the bronze. Pool A The 1980 tournament divided participants into two divisions of four teams, each playing three games. The IIHF World Junior Championship (WJC), sometimes referred to as World Juniors, is an annual event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for national under-20 ice hockey teams from around the world. Brynäs IF
Brynäs IF is a Swedish professional ice hockey team from Gävle. The club currently plays in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), promoted from the HockeyAllsvenskan, the second tier of ice hockey in Sweden, following the 2023–24 season. The club played in the top-tier Swedish league from 1960 to 2023 (1960-75 called Division I, 1975-2023 called the SHL), a total of 63 seasons, longer than any other Swedish club, before suffering relegation for the first time in franchise history at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season. Nicklas Bäckström
Nicklas Bäckström (; born 23 November 1987) is a Swedish professional ice hockey centre and alternate captain for the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League (NHL). Bäckström was selected fourth overall by the Capitals at the 2006 NHL entry draft and made his NHL debut the following year. Bäckström is renowned for his elite playmaking abilities, earning him a reputation as one of the league's most skilled passers. Since 2013–14, Bäckström began a streak of six-consecutive 50-assist seasons, one of only 26 players to ever accomplish the feat. He has since gone on to become Washington's all-time franchise leader in assists, and is second in all-time franchise points behind teammate Alexander Ovechkin.
