Andalusische Nächte
''Nights in Andalusia'' () is a 1938 German musical film directed by Herbert Maisch and starring Imperio Argentina, Friedrich Benfer and Karl Klüsner.Niven p.283 It is based on the opera ''Carmen'' by Georges Bizet, itself based on the novella ''Carmen'' by Prosper Mérimée. It was shot at the Babelsberg Studios in Berlin. The film's sets were designed by the art director Franz Schroedter. A Spanish-language version ''Carmen, la de Triana'' was made at the same time. The film and the parallel Spanish version were an influence on the 1998 Spanish film ''The Girl of Your Dreams''. Georges Bizet (; 25 October 18383 June 1875) was a French composer of the Romantic music, Romantic era. Best known for his operas in a career cut short by his early death, Bizet achieved few successes before his final work, ''Carmen'', which has become one of the most popular and frequently performed works in the entire opera repertoire. During a brilliant student career at the Conservatoire de Paris, Bizet won many prizes, including the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1857. He was recognised as an outstanding pianist, though he chose not to capitalise on this skill and rarely performed in public. Returning to Paris after almost three years in Italy, he found that the main Parisian opera theatres preferred the established classical repertoire to the works of newcomers. His keyboard and orchestral compositions were likewise largely ignored; as a result, his career stalled, and he earned his living mainly by arranging and transcribing the music of others. Kurt Seifert (4 July 1903 – 3 December 1950) was a German actor, singer, comedian, and in his later years, theatre director. Hans Adalbert Schlettow (11 June 1888 – 30 April 1945) was a German film actor. Schlettow appeared in around a hundred and sixty films during his career, the majority during the silent era. Among his best-known film roles was ''Hagen von Tronje'' in Fritz Lang's film classic ''Die Nibelungen'' (1924). In 1929 he starred in the British director Anthony Asquith's film ''A Cottage on Dartmoor''.Ryall p.170 He was a member of the Militant League for German Culture and the National Socialist Factory Cell Organization. Siegfried Schürenberg (12 January 1900 – 31 August 1993) was a German film actor. He appeared in more than 80 films between 1933 and 1974. He was born in Detmold, Germany and died in Berlin, Germany in 1993, at age 93.
