Analanjirofo Region
Analanjirofo is a region in northeastern Madagascar. Until 2009 it was a part of Toamasina Province. It borders Sava Region to the north, Sofia Region to the west, Alaotra-Mangoro Region to the southwest and Atsinanana Region to the south. The capital of the region is Fenoarivo Atsinanana (), and the population was 1,152,345 in 2018. The area of Analanjirofo Region is . Fenoarivo Atsinanana
Fenoarivo Atsinanana (French: Fénérive Est) is a city (commune urbaine) in Madagascar. It is the capital of the Analanjirofo region and of the district of Fenerive-Est. Geography It is situated at the East coast of Madagascar, about 103 km north of the city of Toamasina and 58 kms south of Soanierana-Ivongo along the National road 5 to Maroantsetra. Economy The region around Fenoarivo is one of the most important clove growing areas of Madagascar. The city is also one of the most important sea resorts at the East coast. History In the 17th century it was a privateer's harbour. Ratsimilaho, the first king of the Betsimisaraka, was the son of a pirate and a local princess. Andreba New Protected Area
Andreba is a town and commune () in Madagascar. It belongs to the district of Antsohihy, which is a part of Sofia Region. The population of the commune was estimated to be approximately 13,000 in 2001 commune census. It on the shore of Lake Alaotra. Primary and junior level secondary education are available in town. Ambatovaky Reserve
Ambatovaky Special Reserve is a tropical rainforest and wildlife reserve in the north-east of Madagascar (). It is designated by Bird Life International as an Important Bird Area for the large number of endemic species of birds. Geography This remote reserve ranges from the north-east coast of Madagascar to the Analamerana karstic plateau with elevations of in the Soanierana Ivongo District, Analanjirofo region. It is between the Marimbona river, which forms the southern border, and the Simianona river which forms the northern border. The reserve headquarters are in Soanierana Ivongo and the park is only accessible by canoe along the Marimbona River. Flora and fauna The reserve is mainly covered by dense deciduous dry forest and is the last place for the critically endangered lemur, Perrier's sifaka (''Propithecus perrieri''). Nosy Mangabe
Nosy Mangabe is a small island reserve located in Antongil Bay about offshore from the town of Maroantsetra in north-east Madagascar. it is accessible by small boat and is part of the larger Masoala National Park complex. It is a tropical rainforest national park for a species of lemur, the aye-aye (''Daubentonia madagascariensis''). It lies close enough to Maroantsetra for a day trip, although an overnight stay is recommended for seeing the nocturnal aye-aye. History The island has a rich history of trading and piracy and on the west side of the island are rock carvings by Dutch sailors from the 16th-century. In the 17th-century the area was invaded by the French who established a trading post. Masoala National Park
Masoala National Park, in northeast Madagascar, is the largest of the island's protected areas. Most of the park is situated in Sava Region and a part in Analanjirofo. Created in 1997, the park protects 2,300 square kilometres of rainforest and 100 square kilometres of marine parks. The Masoala Peninsula is exceptionally diverse due to its large size, and variety of habitats. Altogether, the park protects tropical rainforest, coastal forest, flooded forest, marsh, and mangrove. Three marine parks protect coral reefs and a dazzling array of marine life. Climate This is an exceptionally wet area of Madagascar. The driest part of the year is from September to December. As the park is accessible only by a three-hour boat journey, the cyclone season (January to March) is best avoided. Mananara-Nord National Park
Mananara Nord National Park is a national park near Mananara Nord in the Analanjirofo Region of Madagascar. The park is bounded by the Mananara river to the north, the Sandrakatsy river and Fotsialanana river to the west, the Anove river to the south and the Indian Ocean to the east. Zahamena National Park
Zahamena National Park is a national park of Madagascar. Established in 1997, it covers an area of out of a total protected area of . It is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Rainforests of the Atsinanana, inscribed in 2007 and consisting of 13 specific areas located within eight national parks in the eastern part of Madagascar. In 2001, Bird Life International assessed avifauna of 112 species of which 67 species are exclusively endemic to Madagascar. The park is habitat for 112 bird species, 46 reptile species, 62 species of amphibians and 48 species of mammals, including 13 species of lemurs. Ankeniheny-Zahamena Corridor
The Ankeniheny-Zahamena Corridor (CAZ) is a large area of protected forest biome in eastern Madagascar. The CAZ encompasses some 3,810 km, making it one of the largest areas of rainforest remaining in the country. Over 2,000 species of plants have been recorded in the CAZ, nearly 1,700 of which are endemic to the region. This area is the main source of water in the eastern and western part of Madagascar. It received the status of a natural resource reserve in 2015.
