Ana María Fernández
Ana María Fernández Pomar (14 February 1904 – 1993) was a Mexican singer and the first female performer of Agustín Lara's boleros. One of the great stars of Mexican revues of the 1930s, she was also one of the first singers to perform on Mexico City's famous XEW radio station, where announcer Pedro de Lille introduced her as "La Cancionera del Estilo Único" (The Songstress of the Unique Style). She recorded several singles for the RCA Víctor and Okeh labels between 1931 and 1942. Biography Fernández was born in 1904 in the Guerrero neighborhood of Mexico City to Alberto Fernández García and Sofía Pomar Arellano. She married young, had a daughter, and was widowed shortly after. Colonia Guerrero is a colonia of Mexico City located just north-northwest of the historic center. Its borders are formed by Ricardo Flores Magón to the north, Eje Central Lazaro Cardenas and Paseo de la Reforma to the east, Eje1 Poniente Guerrero to the west and Avenida Hidalgo to the south. The colonia has a long history, beginning as an indigenous neighborhood in the colonial period called Cuepopan. Bolero Singers
Bolero is a genre of song which originated in eastern Cuba in the late 19th century as part of the trova tradition. Unrelated to the older Spanish dance of the same name, bolero is characterized by sophisticated lyrics dealing with love. It has been called the "quintessential Latin American romantic song of the twentieth century". Unlike the simpler, thematically diverse ''canción'', bolero did not stem directly from the European lyrical tradition, which included Italian opera and canzone, popular in urban centers like Havana at the time. Instead, it was born as a form of romantic folk poetry cultivated by a new breed of troubadour from Santiago de Cuba, the ''trovadores''.
