Ward (Vietnam)
Ward () is a type of third tier subdivision of Vietnam. It has equal status with township and commune. As of 13 December 2023, Vietnam has a total of 1,780 wards. According to hierarchy of Vietnamese administrative unit, Wards are subordinate to urban district, city or town as the Third Tier unit. A municipal city (), commonly known as a city within a city, is a type of second tier subdivision of Vietnam along with urban district, district, town and provincial city, all of which have equal status. A municipal city is a satellite city of a municipality in Vietnam. Referring to local organizing governance's law which was approved by the thirteenth National Assembly on June 19, 2015, the term "municipal city" was available from January 1, 2016. Thủ Đức
Thủ Đức ʰu˨˩˦:ɗɨk˧˥is a sub-municipality in Ho Chi Minh City of the Southestern region of Vietnam. History The oldest name what was recorded in this area was Ngãi An (義安), a district-level administrative unit has existed since the Nguyễn lords. However, since October 9, 1868, the French government in Cochinchina has decided to change its name to Thủ Đức or sometimes Thũ Đức (守德) to suit the expansion and upgrade plan for the land. That was inherently a pen name of a Minh Hương man called Tạ Huy (謝輝), courtesy name Dương Minh (揚明), who has made meritorious services to this area.
