Amund Ringnes (brewery Owner, 1840)
Amund Ringnes (7 October 1840 – 13 January 1907) was a Norway, Norwegian businessman, brewery owner and patron. He was born in Krødsherad, Buskerud, the son of Anders Knudsen Ringnes (1813–75), farmer, and his wife Maren Amundsdatter (1815–76). He grew up at the Ringnes farm, and commenced working at Akers Mekaniske Verksted in 1860. He left Akers Mek. Verksted in 1865, and was employed by the brewery Christiania Bryggeri. In 1876, he founded Ringnes, Ringnes & Compani brewery with his brother Ellef Ringnes and the businessman Axel Heiberg. It was the eighth brewery in Oslo, Christiania (now Oslo), and later had its name changed to Ringnes Bryggeri. The Ringnes brewery became successful, and Amund Ringnes and his brother became benefactors in Christiania. They invested in the construction of the Holmenkollen Line and sanatoriums in the Holmenkollen area. Otto Sverdrup
Otto Neumann Knoph Sverdrup (31 October 1854 – 26 November 1930) was a Norwegian sailor and Arctic explorer. Early and personal life He was born in Bindal Municipality as a son of farmer Ulrik Frederik Suhm Sverdrup (1833–1914) and his wife Petra Neumann Knoph (1831–1885). He was a great-grandnephew of Georg Sverdrup and Jacob Liv Borch Sverdrup, first cousin twice removed of Harald Ulrik and Johan Sverdrup, second cousin once removed of Jakob, Georg and Edvard Sverdrup, third cousin of Georg Johan, Jakob, Mimi, Leif and Harald Ulrik Sverdrup. He was a brother-in-law of Johan Vaaler, and Otto himself married his own first cousin, Gretha Andrea Engelschiøn (1866–1937), in October 1891 in Kristiania. ''Hvem er hvem?'' () was a Norwegian book series, presenting facts about notable persons from Norway. The first edition was issued in 1912, and the 14th edition came in 1994. From 1938, the plan was to publish such a book every three years, but the Second World War made that impossible. At the time, such a book was published annually in Denmark and every two years in Sweden. In the 2008 edition, edited by Knut Olav Åmås, one thousand persons were selected for presentation. About one third of the articles are longer, signed biographies, while the rest have a shorter, more encyclopedic format. The latest edition was edited by Knut Olav Åmås and narrowed down to 1,000 people. This differs from the older ones in style in that the articles are in a more journalistic style with personal characteristics, in addition to the purely biographical year information. Paper editions (1978–2007) The ''SNL'' was created in 1978, when the two publishing houses Aschehoug and Gyldendal merged their encyclopedias and created the company Kunnskapsforlaget. The respective first editions were published in 1906–1913 (Aschehoug) and 1933–1934 (Gyldendal). Amund Ringnes (brewery Owner, 1905)
Amund Ringnes (24 June 1905 – 1980) was a Norwegian brewery owner. He was born in Oslo to Andreas Ringnes (1874–1928) and Ragna Jensen (1876–1944). He was the grandson of brewery owner and patron Amund Ringnes (1840–1907). He married Laura Kristine Falkenberg in 1928. He started studying chemistry in 1923, and graduated in chemical engineering from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1927. He took training as a brewery master in Copenhagen, finished in 1929 and was employed by Ringnes brewery in the same year. After a period as a chemist, he became a manager in 1935 and chief executive officer in 1945. He was also a member of the board. He chaired the employers' association ''Bryggerienes Arbeidsgiverforening'' from 1952 to 1957, was a central board member of the Norwegian Employers' Confederation 1952 to 1957 and the Federation of Norwegian Industries from 1957 to 1961. Ellef Ringnes Island
Ellef Ringnes Island is an uninhabited island and one of the Sverdrup Islands in the Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada. A member of the Queen Elizabeth Islands and Arctic Archipelago, it is located in the Arctic Ocean, east of Borden Island, and west of Amund Ringnes Island. It has an area of , making it the 69th largest island in the world (slightly larger than Jamaica) and Canada's 16th largest island. Its highest mount is .
